17 at Enniscrone--Rory is right. It's one of the few holes that visitors drop a few extra balls down to try to get it on the green!

I have not played the calibur of courses that some of you have played, but:

#17 at Sawgrass
#8 at Rustic
#14 at Michigan

Honorable mention to #5 at Glenn Dale, depending on pin placement.

#10

All on the same course.

Steve Wilson -

Are you thinking of Royal Dornoch? Those are 3 excellent & tough par-3's, but only #10 is less (just barely) than 150 yards.

The 6th at West Sussex is very tough.

It's also 200-odd yards long!

Or did you mean the 5th?

11 at The Addington is relentless. Green is long, but also very narrow.

YES.  I was thrilled to make a four after my third play!  Honestly, this hole was the first one that came to mind.

Garden City's second hole is also very tough.  The bailout would seem to be short right.  However, this miss leaves a very tough up and in.  It might be better to hit it in the quarry.

How about the 12th @ Whistling Straits when the pin is in the back finger.  Really tough when the wind is blowing.

The bunker left of the 14th @ Pacific Dunes makes this short one a little demon in my eyes.

15th at CPC can play pretty short and there is certainly enough to distract you...

9th at Renaissance is turning out to be a great example of a tough short one- especially if the pin is up front. 147 max off the blues.  The bunkering is awesome.

7th at barnbougle. It's almost impossible to hit when the wind is really strong.

Nice call Tim.

The first time I played Pacific Dunes (in the summer), I thought the 14th hole was a piece of cake.  It was straight downwind with like a wedge.  Then I went back in the spring one year and played it into the wind.  I couldn't believe how much harder the hole played, and I don't think I  came close to hitting the green either time I played it!

David Tepper,

Yes, I was thinking of Dornoch and I now recognize the error of my cryptic post.
That's what I get for jumping into the middle of the thread and not reading the ground rules.  I tend to think of them as being shorter than they are because twice (out of six plays) I hit the same club into all four of them.

To try and save face I'll say that 2, 6, and 10 would be just as difficult even if they were less than 150 yards.  How's that for ordering a plate of crow and then refusing to eat it?
Some days you play golf, some days you find things.

I'm not really registered, but I couldn't find a symbol for certifiable.

A few more to discuss:

7 at RCD
9 at Lakota Canyon (I forget how long this hole played, possibly longer than 150, but the down hill made it seem shorter)
11 at Wild Horse (tough if you miss the pinned portion of the green)
12 at Doonbeg

I'll second the nominations for 14 at Doonbeg, 7 at PB, 2 and 9 at Kingsley and 11 at PacD.

It seems like that holed played a little longer, I agree. It's tough but you have lots of room to miss it left (says the guy who was 3 under at the point at the round and made triple because I went at a right pin).

Another good one is the short 15th? at Fallen Oak, tough green and the greenside bunkers are death.

I still stand by my original choice: 11 at Addington.  The green is very narrow, and any miss leaves a very difficult up-and-down.

10 at Royal Dornoch is another difficult one--2 and 6 would be good choices as well, but I think the interior contours of the 10th make it more difficult.

10 at Woking was a brutal one as well.  The hole plays along a ridge which means any miss leaves a very difficult up and in.  This sort of ridgeline par three seems to be a consistently tough formula for a short par three.

7 at Barnbougle is the hole I am most familiar with in this category
Even in calm conditions ( it is not windy all the time TD ) it is an interesting tee shot
It is a great match play hole , because you get all manner of results
Up and down from left or long is only a remote possibility
Right of the green leaves a very precise chip/putt/flop - I use a running rescue...
But par can be made from this position
However short right is the lay up position in very difficult conditions...

Revisiting this thread I'm surprised I didn't nominate the 9th at Silloth.  Brutally difficult in any sort of wind.  Amnd Simon's nomination of the 9th at Renaissance is a good one.  Very tricky indeed, particularly with the front pin position they had when I played there.

These 3 little devils have each confounded me.

5 @ Dismal River. Played it three times and couldn't get one on to this green.

Ditto for 17 @ Sand Hills.

17 @ Secession.
