Have to go with Sarazen, don't you?

He was three back with four to go and made it all up in one shot.

Phil's would have locked up the tournament if he made the putt (maybe it did anyway), but he could have won it a hundred other ways as well.

I could spend hours thinking about this....maybe days.   but the first 3 that come to mind

1. Watson's chip in PB

2. Trevino's chip on on #17 Muirfield

3. I'm still thinking Padraig's up and down on #18 at Carnoustie to get him into a playoff.  Although it wasn't the most diffcult up and down he has ever made, considering the Van de Velde history, the venue, etc. I thought it was one of the gutsiest I've ever seen.

Shoot...here's another - Justin Leonard's putt - Brookline

Anthony, you are killing me with this topic...I have work that needs to get done!

It's certainly a tough question that can be pondered for days but I'd give the nod to Larry Mize.  Beat two of the greatest players of all time, Norman and Ballesteros.

Although he is not the most popular on here today, Tiger's chip in on 16 against DiMarco has to be considered.

Since I've started watching / playing golf (1994), 2 shots stand out for me.

- Bob May's pitch for up and down on the first playoff hole at the 2000 PGA against Tiger.

- Shaun Micheel's shot on the 72nd hole at Oak Hill.

These aren't the greatest ever, but probably the best I've actually watched.

Tiger's 3 iron from a downhill lie with the ball well below his feet in a bunker at Hazeltine in the US PGA in 2002.

Huge draw around a large tree - with the wind blowing left to right - which pitched and stopped 8 feet from the pin.

Tiger always says it's the best shot he's ever hit. So that will do for me.

we've had this discussion before...and Shivas is still wrong!

has to be Watson at PB:  it won him our Open, denied Jack his record 5th...two of the greatest players ever hooking up on a great course......

Tom Huckaby's 9 iron to a foot to birdie the 9th hole at Sand Hills and beat the tenacious Brad Miller 1 up while a full house cheered from up on Ben's Porch. :)

This is a pretty logical choice.  A close second could be Robert Gamez holing out from the fairway to win at Bay Hill, but that ain't a US Open!

Melvyn,

I heard the guy that paced off the 578 yards took a wrong turn at one point but never stopped counting...any truth to that?

John Mayhugh's hole-in-one at Greywalls in front of Mike DeVries.  Too bad I was playing the 18th with George Freeman who blew his drive so far right we were all watching it to make sure it wasn't lost and didn't get to see John's ball go in the hole.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Ouimet's 5 iron mashie to the 17 at TCC, leading to a birdie and forcing a playoff in the 1913 Open.

The shot itself may not have been spectacular, but the circumstances surrounding it were, and still are.

Nicklaus 1 iron 17th Pebble

I always thought Hale Irwin's putt at Medinah....the one where he ran around the green high fiving everyone was epic.  It capped an incredible Sunday charge ultimately resullting in another U.S. Open win.

Payne Stewart's par putt to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst was an incredible shot within the pressure cooker.

Robert Gamez holing an iron from the middle of the fairway at Bay Hill to win on the 18th hole.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

To me, it is Tiger's putt to force the playoff at Torrey Pines. I just don't see anyone else making that putt under those circumstances.

Along those lines, I put Payne's putt to beat Phil right up there.

If one is unhappy with putts carrying that sort of significance, well, tough. :)

Historically, seems like Sarazen's is the answer.
