3. I'm still thinking Padraig's up and down on #18 at Carnoustie to get him into a playoff.  Although it wasn't the most diffcult up and down he has ever made, considering the Van de Velde history, the venue, etc. I thought it was one of the gutsiest I've ever seen.

- Bob May's pitch for up and down on the first playoff hole at the 2000 PGA against Tiger.

- Shaun Micheel's shot on the 72nd hole at Oak Hill.

These aren't the greatest ever, but probably the best I've actually watched.

Tiger's 3 iron from a downhill lie with the ball well below his feet in a bunker at Hazeltine in the US PGA in 2002.

Huge draw around a large tree - with the wind blowing left to right - which pitched and stopped 8 feet from the pin.

Tiger always says it's the best shot he's ever hit. So that will do for me.

This is a pretty logical choice.  A close second could be Robert Gamez holing out from the fairway to win at Bay Hill, but that ain't a US Open!

John Mayhugh's hole-in-one at Greywalls in front of Mike DeVries.  Too bad I was playing the 18th with George Freeman who blew his drive so far right we were all watching it to make sure it wasn't lost and didn't get to see John's ball go in the hole.

The shot itself may not have been spectacular, but the circumstances surrounding it were, and still are.

I always thought Hale Irwin's putt at Medinah....the one where he ran around the green high fiving everyone was epic.  It capped an incredible Sunday charge ultimately resullting in another U.S. Open win.

Payne Stewart's par putt to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst was an incredible shot within the pressure cooker.

Robert Gamez holing an iron from the middle of the fairway at Bay Hill to win on the 18th hole.

To me, it is Tiger's putt to force the playoff at Torrey Pines. I just don't see anyone else making that putt under those circumstances.

Along those lines, I put Payne's putt to beat Phil right up there.

If one is unhappy with putts carrying that sort of significance, well, tough.

Historically, seems like Sarazen's is the answer.
