All,

I'd like to introduce our newest member who I'm sure many of you know already.

Virginia is a fellow graduate of the EIGCA education program and is a Design Associate with Hurdzan & Fry, involved with their European office which is run out of her home city of Torino in Italy.

She initially comes from an agronomy background and at one time played to a +3 handicap, representing Italy and playing college golf in Florida.

I hope she sees fit to contribute on a regular basis and I'm sure she'll add a new angle to many of the discussions that we see repeated on occasion...

Welcome to Virginia

Welcome Virginia,

I hope you get on Matt Ward's case right away for his most recent transgression currently featured on the first page of the discussion group.
Then of course you can join in on all his other transgressions as time goes on.

Enjoy!

welcome Virginia!

Have you ever played Ville d'est and if so, what so you think of it?   To me, it's one very special place with superb par threes.

What is the EIGCA program?

Welcome Virginia. Your golfing background is very interesting. +3 is an awesome handicap!

I look forward to your posts.

Welcome, please don't be shy about sharing your opinions, and especially about sharing your passion for design.

All,
Thank you for you warm welcoming.

Mark - I do not know your friend Marcello Farini.

Philip - It was great to see you in St. Andrews also!

Gary - I know very well Villa D'Este, home of many International Junior and Medal Championship, where I won twice.
The course has the same name of the Luxury Hotel situated on the near Lake of Como. It is a narrow and challenging parkland golf course.  It was founded back in 1926 and designed by the British architect Peter Gannon. It is one of the oldest among the 300 courses present in Italy. I agree the five pars-3 of the course (Par 69), as you know, are long and difficult; the course is surely one of the favorite by my family.

RJ - Grazie del benvenuto!!!!
I see that you know my language. The two Molinari brothers are my friend and they played at my home club in Torino up until last year. At Augusta keep your eyes also on young Matteo Manassero - Brithish Amateur Champion 2009 and still amateur.

Virginia,

Welcome and good luck!

It is nice to see more EIGCA people on the site as it has been sparse with European opinion the last 10 years.

How can you not know Marcello?  I thought Marcello knew everyone in Italy, that's what he tells us anyway.

Cheers,

Brian.

Virginia,

Welcome to GCA. I hope you spend many hours enjoying the banter, discussions and chit chat on the forum (I know I do).
I'm heading to Italy next month to visit four courses. You've already mentioned Villa D'Este, which sounds wonderful, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Menaggio, Beilla le Betulle and Circolo Golf Bogogno?

If you come to play golf in the north of Italy, you must stop at "Biella Le Betulle".
Best course in Italy!  It is my home course and I love it. It is challenging and at the same time fun; each hole has his character; its greens can be a nightmare when fast; and it is totally immersed in woodland nature!!! The turf conditions should be pretty good next month even if this past winter has been quite wet and cold.

Let me know if you need my help setting up your tee-time or if there is anything I can do for you.

Bogogno is an other good 36 holes course.
Menaggio, I do not really know it because I never played it.
There are many other good courses in the regions of Piemonte and Lombardia in the north-west of Italy

Mr. R.J. Daley:

Didn't you know this is a "family oriented" website that does not condone "dirty talk," not even in Italian?

Virginia:

Despite the "family" orientation of this webiste welcome to GOLFCLUBATLAS.com's Discussion Group where every day is like a bar-room brawl in Dodge City on a Friday night right after the cowboys got paid!

By the way, in about two months I'll be in that beautiful spot on the West Coast of Italy they call the "vertical town." Maybe I'll see you.

Sadly I don't know Biella, it always seems to be just a bit out of the way, when I'm going to or coming from Italy. But Menaggio & Cadenabbia is (IMHO) better than Villa d'Este (which is no slouch).

Tom Paul, which town are you talking about? I was in Cinque Terre in mid 2008 and absolutely loved it there. As I recall those 5 towns are fairly vertical...

Biella is also a favourite - is it still very private?   I got invited to the Lancia d'Oro at Biella and played one round with Peter Butler.  What I remember is how long some of the par fours were, Peter was a Ryder Cup player and couldn't reach some in two.
