Bottom line is that Texans are better than everybody else since we (not me) give more to charity.

For people who are saying this is bad for golf in general, then you are also saying Masters and Augusta National is bad for golf as well since all they are doing is replicating what they are doing at ANGC.

Correct.

This tournament prep is more involved than a "normal" PGA tour event from what I understand.

Incorrect.  All PGA Tour stops are the same.  Wasteful, and a poor example of how golf courses should be presented in THE REAL WORLD.  Golfers expect what they see on teevee, and that's a big reason why the game of golf as we know it today (in the USofA) is not sustainable.

Different strokes for different folks, should we all drive volkswagen bugs or fiat uno's,,the public has different demands and different taste...timex is a good watch but a rolex is better...some want perfection and are willing to pay for it...all types of courses including those with sand greens sprinkled with oil and then rolled are great for golf. What is the most watched golf event in the world. I am not sure but I would guess it would be the Masters...is that not good for golf?

Randy, I understand different strokes for different folks, but what is up with your aversion to a single period? :)

 8) I believe there are several thousand volunteers involved at the SHO.. at least says an ex-volunteer sitting next to me.. when you consider monday through sunday operations, pro-ams, perople are normally asked to work three shifts, drivers, marshalls, scorers, tee and green  and crossing rope people, laser distance operators,  concession stand workers, delivery folks, pick up folks, volunteer management..  it adds up..

Kevin thanks or the quote for the super. I too do not really think much of the course but that goes for at least half the tour stops. Late March and April are tough times on the gulf coast to host a big event. It is transition time for the grasses. My hat is off to any super wearng that pressure year after year.

The tournament prep at SHO is MUCH more involved than that at Colonial. Greg, I think that it's pretty cool to see 75 people working as a team, creating a buzz in teh golf world. Each tournament has to find it's own niche-SHO has found theirs.
