Looking For The Architect
« on: March 18, 2010, 08:11:25 PM »
Being the geek that I am (and overly OCD), I'm trying to find out information about who built several area courses here in Cleveland.  If anyone has any knowledge of the course architect for these places, please chime in!

Forest Hills Golf Course in Elyria, OH opened in 1956

Valleaire Golf Club in Hinckley, OH opened in 1963

Fox Creek Golf & Raquet Club in Lorain, OH opened in 1957
Born Rochester, MN. Grew up Miami, FL. Live Cleveland, OH. Handicap 13.2. Have 26 & 23 year old girls and wife of 29 years. I'm a Senior Supply Chain Business Analyst for Vitamix. Diehard walker, but tolerate cart riders! Love to travel, always have my sticks with me. Mollydooker for life!

C&W list Harold Paddock Sr. for the 2nd, among several N. Ohio courses he designed.  His most notable course was Westwood in STL.

The Forest Hills site indicates it used to be a private 9-holer, so maybe that clue helps.

Thanks Jason!  Pappy Paddock designed a fair number of courses in this area, so that makes pretty good sense.

Supposedly Fox Creek has some information on the course hanging in their restaurant, but nobody there seems willing to help get it...will most likely have to stop by out there one of these days to find out for myself.

Forest Hills was once an old 9-hole private course as you said, but the folks there (currently) have little clue about the course's distant past.

The quest for info continues!
