With the snow melting and more grass starting to be appear I was starting to think about golf again. I was curious if anybody would be interested in a  GCA golf outing in Minnesota. Trying to get a feel for how much interest there might be. The Twin Cities seems like the logical choice, although both Brainerd or Giants Ridge would also work. I don't have any connections to private clubs but I would be willing to take the lead on making arrangements for public any courses if needed.  Let me know what you think.

Great idea Mike. I'm just north of Brainerd myself. I happened to notice that in the current issue of Golf Minnesota (the directory issue) There is a coupon for playing all 4 of madden's courses for $88.  Normally the Classic alone costs more than $100. I think that might be a nice idea. Despite the fact that it would be convenient for me, I do think the course would likely have some architectural merit.

Mississippi Dunes opened today (Monday, March 15, Cottage Grove, MN.) The architectural merit part is debatable.

As for a GCA gathering, it's probably not a good year for me, but I'll certainly consider it -- more likely in August or later.

Rick, we were just speculating over the weekend which course would open up first in the Metro.  Thanks for ending the debate.

There was talk of a Northland CC get together here previously.  This could morph into a Duluth/Giants Ridge two day affair or for the more adventurous.....a round at NCC followed by a drive to Fortune Bay.  Let's see, great golf followed by a night at the tables followed by great golf.

Keep me in mind for whatever becomes of this potential outing.

I've always said I will never enter a Minnesota casino for the purpose of "gaming" -- but in the context of an outing like the one you outline, I think I could persuade myself to make one (1) exception.

Northland/Fortune Bay/Legend/Quarry sounds like a great two- or three-day itinerary. I'll be in for that if time and finances allow.

We should try to schedule it to coincide with one of Jeff Brauer's visits to The North Star State (STILL The North Star State, despite Norm "NORM SUCKS" Green).

One astute architecture critic replied "What's the Good News?"

Oh, and by the way: Oak Marsh, as usual, beat everyone else (I think) to the punch. They're open today -- with four tee times still available, between 2:45 and 4:15.

Dan,

I think they have cancelled their former media day for this year, but I stilll would like to make one trip up to the area.  If this thing goes that direction, I will try to attend, but have sort of a busy June (I am going to get remarried......and I don't think that would be her idea of a honeymoon.......) but if it was August, I could probably make it and possibly help make some arrangements.

I would be nearly just as up for some of the courses in MSP, but think we have probably used up our Somerset and White Bear Yacht Club connections, certainly for a big group.

You gotta love Wendell....in the infamous words of Sade...."he's a smooth operator".  Just remember, Dan, poker is a skill game much like golf and I hear the accomodations are first rate at Fortune Bay.  The JB August hook up sounds like fun in the North country and it would be interesting to hear his analysis of Northland now that Chris T has it playing firm and fast.  Let's not let this die out....I would love to meet the rest of the MN members here.

Turns out I'll be moving back to Minnesota at the end of the month so keep me posted as well Mike.

Depending on how big a group I might be able to work something out to get us out at Minneapolis GC as my dad joined there last summer.

Otherwise would definitely be interested in something up North.

It looks like the best chance of me being in MSP is the week of Sept 13, but I am not sure of the exact dates yet. If tha is too late for a Iron Range Tour, I understand.

The Iron Range in September might be tough to handle for a Texan but definitely not for Minnesotans.

Well it's May in MN and it's 91 degrees.....go figure.   Here's a shout out to all of you if you are in the Alexandria area and want to play the Alexandria Golf Club.  Natives know the history of the Resorter's and the fact that Tom Lehman grew up here but how many knew that Bendelow designed at least 9 holes?  That said, send me a PM if you are interested in playing one of Minnesota's Big 3 Resort courses.  It's a great walk and always in tip top shape thanks to our Irish Greenkeeper!

As for the Sept. date...I would love to be there so keep me in mind and keep me posted.
