Anthony,

I would beg to differ that its the Hummer of golf courses.  Outrageously over the top, wasteful, huge waste of resources, far more expensive than it should be, and obsolete...just like Hummer which has been discountinued.

http://www.nowpublic.com/tech-biz/hummer-deal-falls-through-hummer-discontinued-2583033.html

At least a stretch limo often serves a real purpose, by transporting 8-10 people.

I played Trump LA once, and that was probably more than enough. I was amazed how cramped the site was, and although there were a few pretty holes with waterfalls and the like, a lot of sameish and not terribly exciting holes.

Down the coast a bit will take you to Pelican Hill. If I had seen both courses side by side, I would pick PH as the Stretch Limo every time.

NGLA - Gull Wing Mercedes (Design personified)
Wild Horse - F-150 Ford (All-american workhorse)
ANGC - Corvette (Fast, sleek and continually updated, but still a classic)
Pine Valley - Shelby Cobra (One of a kind speedster)
Cypress - Woody (Captures an era)
Pebble Beach - Jaguar E-type (Pure beauty)
Grey Walls - Willy Jeep (Rugged yet reliable)

I would say any Tour 18 course would be  the equivalent to a kit car. Any beauty is skin deep and outweighed by the lack of a soul

TOC is the wheel.

Carnoustie is the Hummer, maybe?  Big and brawny?

Hummer       Big and flashy, but lacks the quality refinement of a great course
Corvette      Plastic and miss forms under pressure something like the Castle Course
VW Beattle   No front or back  - directional in doubt like the New Trump circus
Formul;a One Racer   Too fast and you miss out the fun moments
Stock Car      A robust day to day course with no thrills
Bently      Waiting for my experience of heaven playing TOC alone
Big Foot      Course for walkers only or lots of water hazards
Mini Cooper   Aahh that’s getting to the spot,  needs a ‘S’ to combat the penal aspect
Tractor      Are you describing some of the modern course designs
Dune Buggy   Course with just too many bunkers
Winnibago   Expect at least a 6 hour round on these courses
City Bus      Fair but plodding yet gets you there in the end type of course
Horse and Buggy       Traditional course well looked after and no carts allowed.

Is that what you are after ;)

Great thread!

Mini Cooper - Pinehurst #3 (Small at 5682 yrds, Classic: Ross, and Fun: probably the best collection of drive/pitch holes in the country)
BentlEy(Continental) - Friars Head (Expensive, Exclusive, Visually spectacular, Performs with the best)
City Bus - The International (As big as it gets and hard to drive)
Corvette - TPC Sawgrass (American classic but extremely modern, Expensive but not the most, Exciting from start to finish)

... Why is big foot on this list? Are you talking about a monster truck?

Big Foot Monster TRuck is so Kalen can participate in the thread. The Little Miss Sunshine van is for Garland, who looked alot like Bill Walton in college.

Corvette=Pebble Beach (The hands down winner.  It's public.  It has been updated.  It looks the part.  There is substantial meat under a good, yet somewhat fake exterior)

I like Cruden Bay as a Mini Cooper. Sporty with spunk and a little mischief.

Seminole has to be a convertible, shall we say the Ford Mustang. An American classic where the wind is always a factor.
Did you know World Woods has the best burger I've ever had in my entire life? I'm planning a trip back just for another one between rounds.

Pinto - Country Club of the Poconos at Big Ridge - Not well designed and could take your life in your hands using it.

What course would be a "HONDA"?

at first glance non-flashy, smart, dependable and you grow fonder of it over time ....?

Jeff Brauer's Wildhorse in Davis, CA is the perfect definition of a Honda.

Carl,

I would put Plainfield in that category and in a short period of time it would be recognised as a classic.

With the lack of money, my home course is turning into that station wagon with the wood on the side.

Tobacco Road is The Bat Mobile. You never know what its got. And hard to figure out how to use it.

I'll add another vehicle of my own.

M1 Abrams tank: Pinehurst #2, expensive and can kick your ass with little or no warning.

The Tobacco Road<-->Batmobile comparison is excellent.  A few others:

Delorean (ultra-modern, maybe ahead of its time, enjoyed by few but recognizable to many): Rich Harvest Links
Ford Model T (small, rudimentary, but one of the first): Highlands Links
Range Rover (big, nice-looking, sharp edges): Crooked Stick
Thunderbird (American classic recently updated and re-released): MPCC Shore
Mechanical bull (relentless tough ride): Oakmont
