Victoria Golf Club (Aus)

I'm interested to hear about the short game practice area/par-3 course at Victoria Golf Club, in Melbourne.

I'm consulting at a club here, in Canada, where there's interesting opportunity to create a cool short game practice area. A committee member recently visited Melbourne and talked about Victoria Golf Club as a model.

Any info. is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff,

I played at Victoria a few months ago and don't recall a par three course anywhere on the site. They did have an interesting looking chipping green smashed between the 1st, 9th, and 10th holes with a bunch of different bunkers and fall off areas for pitching. Unless the short course is off the main site somewhere, I don't think it exists or it is really small and out of the way.

Victoria did have some pretty cool par 3 holes. But then again, thats no surprise given the area's reputation for good one shotters.

Thanks Peter.

Maybe the reference is to the chipping green you've mentioned... ?

Jeff,

We (Michael Clayton Golf Design) built the chipping area about 10 years ago.  There is no par three course at Victoria, but the chipping green may have three pins in it - so perhaps thats where the confusion came?

Like all good short game facilities it replicates the sort of shots you can expect to find on the course.  As Peter pointed out there are a number of different bunker shots, putts, chips, 'bump and runs' and pitch shots up to about 30 metres.

Thanks for your response, Mike.

Coincidentally, I just (literally) received an email response to the same question from none other than Mike Clayton - from Brunei, too, apparently - which is as much appreciated as your response here. Thanks again.

Best,
