A rare look at the National - Part 1

A friend of a friend who works on the grounds crew sent these to me.  Enjoy

Date: 2/13/2010 
About 50 days away from the tournament and this is what the course looked like when I came in this morning.  My personal favorite picture, besides the ones of Amen Corner, is the photo of hole #4 and the one palm tree on the property.  It is also interesting to see how much difference the hydronic coils make in the soil temperatures.  No snow on any of the greens that have coils underneath them.

While I appreciate the photos of Augusta, doesn't "National" denote NGLA?

Agreed with Peter....I do not believe anyone here would confuse "Augusta" with Augusta Country Club, while just saying "National" could mean NGLA...

Everyone in Augusta calls it "The National"

and very,very few would know what NGLA or National Golf Links of America is or was

I have clicked on several threads with "National" in the subject,  subconsciously expecting to read about ANGC.

The photos originated in Augusta where they refer to the course as "The National", No One in Augusta would call AGNC "Augusta", the same as you wouldn't call Harbour Town "Hilton Head" ,or Olympic "San Francisco"
With 15-25 courses in the Augusta area, that would be a bit confusing.
although in the UK calling the course by the town name is common.

Maybe it's a north-south thing. My first thought when I saw the first photo was, Man, they're having a tough winter on Long Island.

Pretty quick recovery from being snowed under less than two weeks ago.

The snow fell on Friday evening and probably 90% of it was gone by Saturday night. 

Today was like a wind tunnel in Augusta!
