Egg Harbor, NJ Golf Course
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:13:48 PM »
Does anyone know the name of the golf course across the street from Blue Heron Pines?  It seems to be at Tilton Rd. and S. Odessa Ave.  I saw it while looking at courses using Google maps but it is not named.  It looks very impressive.

I think you are looking at the Blue Heron Pines East course.  A Steve Smyers design.

That makes sense, but the BHP website did not mention two courses.  Thanks.

IIRC, the East course was sold to a developer a few years back and is now closed.

Agreed.  I think Steve Smyers did a nice job on that course.  It was fun to play, with some really cool greens.

Which is the better course?  I've played both East and West and found the East more interesting.

I much preferred the East having played both many times.  They hosted the US Am Pub Links back in 2003 I believe.  The sales and "development" of that property has gone through many iterations which have been bounced back and forth due to the timing of it all (economy).  One of the later iterations was for it to be developed as a 55+ community that would retain 9 holes of golf.  It has laid dormant now for a couple years.

Strange to drive by it now and see what was once clearly a very good golf course covered in knee high growth.
