Hi to all. My name is Tim Martin from Connecticut and I am a long time fan of GolfClubAtlas. I have been accessing the site since 2005 and learned a great deal while also having more than a few laughs. After going back and viewing many of the old threads I am constantly amazed at the knowledge and insight of the members. It is also refreshing to see that an occasional smart ass comment is welcome if delivered in the proper spirit. I grew up with my  grandfather and father as avid golfers. It did not become an interest of mine until my early twenties even though I learned quite a bit about the game as a caddy in my teens. Some 30 years later it has grown into a passion although my wife likes to remind me that a better word is obsession. I grew up in a town bordering New Haven and have been enamored with Yale since around 1985 when my father who is a grad took me there for the first time. As I continued to play different courses over the years I always found myself comparing their design features to those at Yale and mostly came up far short. I believe my interest in golf architecture has morphed from that singular realization. I last played about 3 weeks ago in Hartford in what I would have to describe as firm and fast conditions.Sort of a British Open style on steroids with semi frozen greens and rock hard fairways with plenty of wind. Fun. I have played quite a bit of winter golf over the years in Connecticut, Rhode Island and occasionally South Jersey. Thanks for the chance to be a contributor and props to all you guys who champion this passion of maintaining and restoring these glorious works of art.

Welcome, don't be shy!
Big drivers and hot balls are the product of golf course design that rewards the hit one far then hit one high strategy.  Shinny showed everyone how to take care of this whole technology dilemma. - Pat Brockwell, 6/24/04

Now that it is public and a potential backup to Yale, what is Woodbridge GC like? I have never played it.

Mike Sweeney- Woodbridge is a great old Orin Smith design. A good mix of holes and some of the best greens around with plenty of tilt and some great contours. The Connecticut State Golf Association loves this course and had the state amateur there in 2008. The Connecticut section PGA held their 2009 2 day junior championship there as well. Extremely reasonable pricing if you pick the right times to go. The # 9 hole is an uphill dogleg left with a green that tilts back to front. A very tough hole where getting above the pin can be an extreme challenge. The only ho hum hole is # 18 which is a shortish par 4 that I have been told has been changed to accommodate the driving range which borders it on the right. All in all a great plan b if you can`t play Yale and right up the street off Fountain.
