Looking for some Ideas for that triangle area.  I would like to stick to the northern end of Columbia since traveling from Tennessee.  Friends and I are looking for a decent walkable course for this Sunday.  Any help would be great.

Won't you need cross country skis Sunday?  We are looking for 1-3" down here on the Gulf Coast!

Musgrove Mill outside Greenville is a really good course and very walkable.

Thanks for the suggestion of Musgrove.  We've played the Mill many times and what a great club!  We are looking for something that is easy access with decent greens.  I've heard the forecast. Weather channel still says rain snow mix tomorrow and 51 partly cloudy Sunday for Spartanburg.

I live in Columbia and you're going to be hard pressed to find a playable course in your target area this weeked. Everything around Columbia is still positively saturated from the rain we've already had. And even if Friday night turns out to be half an inch of rain instead of several inches of snow it's still going to be sitting there come Sunday morning.

If by any miracle my club in Blythewood is playable Sunday I'd be glad to host or arrange for you to play as my guests. This past Sunday the greens at least were in good shape but the fairways had standing water in spots. If you drive to Greenville, I'd suggest the course at Furman University as fun, very walkable, and a good value.

I played it several times pre-renovation and although it had pretty good bones, the the greens and surrounding areas were always disappointing in terms of conditioning and interest.  The recent renovation by Kris Spence remedied that.

Although they're still settling in (read: can be a bit bumpy), the greens now are much more interesting with a Donald Ross-ish feel.  And assuming the bermuda is dormant, you should get firm/fast conditions.

As Matt points out...we're in the sandy part of Blythewood and have decent man-made drainage under the course. So we drain about as well as anywhere, as you get more into the upstate the clay stays wetter. So that's why I say if we still are wet at Columbia CC it's probably going to be very wet anywhere else.

I just heard the latest forecast for down that way.....Winter Storm Warning from Greenwood, SC to the south and it's snowing here currently.  The forecast is for 3-5 inches in the Columbia area......WOW!!!!!!

Lawrence, I second Furman Univ. golf course. Chris Spence did some clearing out, and added some nice rolls to the greens (#2 comes to mind with a back-shelf half doughnut).

I think the word around the campfire is that he also has worked on CC of Spartanburg. I am not sure if they still claim that course as a Ross or not. I have been removed from that area for too long now.

Good luck either way, it unfortunately will be pretty nasty this weekend.
