The Fish Hook

What's the best Fish Hook hole you have ever seen/played? 

Mine is the par 5 10th at The Prince (I can hear TD cringe  :) )  Prince's tenth is one of the most dramatic 2/3 shot options out there.  A good drive challenging the left side cliff edge (as much as you dare) leaves you with a following long, dramatic and daunting forced carry 2-shot option.  The conventional option requires play along a more benign route sans forced carries. 

Incredibly risky 2-shot route balanced by a safe 3-shot route - stuff of good golf.  The beautiful scenery is icing on the cake.

JC: I think the 15tjh Pete built at Harbour Town is the best I've played.

Going back a few years, the only one I heard of who ever got to the green in 2 was Watson ..... certainly more recently.

They enlarged the green on 15 by about 30-35% years ago and it made a big difference in the hole. I doubt if the original green was even 2500 sf.

Tight drive, narrowing 2nd shot and then you were at right angles to that tiny green with a greenside bunker directly in your face

Cape Kidnappers' name [the point] in the Maori language translates to "the fish hook of Maui" -- from their myths, the hook by which the god Maui pulled the land from the sea.  So that's my favorite "fish hook" in golf.  Plus, the scenery is better than at The Prince.

But I am curious as to your definition of a "fish hook".

I am curious about the definition as well.

The second hole at Royal New Kent I suppose would be more of a 'horsehoe' than a 'fishook'.

The fourteenth hole at Riverfront might be described as a 'fishook' meaning (for a midling size hitter) two straight shots and a 90 degree turn left.  Semi-blind third shot and mostly fall away hard to a hold green.

By Fish Hook I mean a hole that wraps around a hazard and literally heads back to the tee.

There's a par-5 at Houston CC that follows an oxbow in the river and is an extreme example of a Fish Hook - the hole is U-shaped.  The tee and green are adjacent but protected by trees and river.  All play was 3 convention shots following the curvature of the oxbow until.....  Greg Norman played there (25 years ago).  Norman in a pro am (and as a lark) nuked a tee shot through the trees (completely blind), over the river (twice!) and landed greenside.  A chip and a 1-putt yielded eagle.

BTW Uncle George - you're example is a good one.

Tom - I didn't know that about CK.  I don't remember any holes there folding back on themselves in a fish hook fashion.  Is my memory fading??
