Here are some photos of Mana House.  Note they use a flood type irrigation with the concrete ditch being flooded and washing across.  And the fairway mower was a little out of date ;D

Scott / Mike:

Is Mena house really as close to the Great Pyramid as it looks in the photo?  Looks like you could bounce a 7-iron off the side of it.  Although I am sure you would be cursed (and I don't mean cursed at) for doing so.

Depends how well you hit your 7-iron, Tom. ;D Google Maps has the shortest point between golf course and pyramid as 219m!

TD,
I would say it is at least a 1/2 mile and maybe a mile away....it's just BIG....

For any that feel that would like to apply..a gentleman that I have done a project for in the past has a foundation where he sends 10 people per year to the mid East on a 21 day trip and it is quite educational....30 seminary students from different religions are accompanied by 10 persons that have done the trip....it is not a religious trip as much as an educational trip and it is that....IM me if anyone is interested in applying....they pay for the trip except for a small fee of around $700.  this is the site  http://www.metsprogram.com/alumni.shtml

Yes working on the only 18-hole golf course in Caesarea, Israel. It is a core golf course within a residential community. We are very proud of it and working in sand has been great. Finishing the landscape now and the golf course will be complete.  Palspalum fairways and greens are growing in nicely.

Tim:

Wasn't this course originally designed by Fred Smith? Do you have any background on how he ended up designing a course over there?

Dónal.

The good news is that you designers and architects will have to seriously think of new hazards because that is the place that water hazards have no affect because they walk on water out there.

That’s going to cause problems for a few golfing houses and really screw up some of you modern guy with perhaps a few exceptions.

Melvyn

PS I must also say I expect the Grill Room food will be rather limited as there is just so much you can do with five loaves and fishes. Let’s hope that all the cart paths don’t all lead to Golgotha, although ….

PPS The Kingdom of Heaven sorry Fife is where the heart and soul of the game is based and I do not mean that building in front of the 1st Tee on TOC

I've not played golf in Israel, but I've worked there several times. Explore the wines - they are not expensive there, and there are some excellent wines coming through from the Golan Heights, for example. Last time I was in Israel I was there on a Sabbath. I was staying in a very Jewish Hotel. They advised me not to eat in the restaurant that evening, but pointed out a little restaurant just down the road where I could even have pork sausages. I've never felt naughtier about eating a meal!

It reminds me of the story of the Jewish man who went on holiday to France. He was careful about what he ate, but he could not help but be impressed by the boars' heads served at table with an apple in their mouths. Judging by the way the locals tucked into this thing, he thought it must be the greatest delicacy of all. After several nights of careful dining he took the plunge and ordered a boar's head.

As he was awaiting the arrival of the boar's head, who should arrive in the restaurant than his Rabbi.

He dreaded the moment that the waiter would appear with a boar's head, complete with apple in the mouth, destined for him.

The Rabbi solved the problem immediately: 'What ingenious methods  the French have of serving an apple!'

Mark:

I went to my high school reunion last year and my wife (who never got to meet my mother) got to spend some time with some old friends who knew her well.  The one who remembered her best was our next-door neighbor, who went on and on about these great sandwiches my mom used to feed us.  I didn't remember them, but my wife recognized them as deviled ham.

Which was only funny because my next-door neighbor was Jewish, and still to this day didn't know what they were.  But she loved those sandwiches!
