This is the original George O'Neil routing, about a decade before Ross came by. You can still see vestiges of the green pad for the original par 3 second behind the current second tee. Some of the land Ross used was unavailable to O'Neil, slated for housing that was never built.

Tim:

I'm pretty sure that the map shows a preliminary routing, and with respect to the front nine differs in some ways from what was actually built.  An article that appeared a month later in Golfers Magazine noted such, and another article from October of the same year has a description of the nine holes on the north end of the property that doesn't exactly match up with the map.  That being said, that description does have the 2nd hole as a par 3, which jives with what you said about the old green pad.

Based on my research for the Beverly book, including info from club documents, this was what was built. Six and seven are today's seventh hole (albeit now shortened by 87th Street), eight and nine follow the same basic line. But the original 3-4-5-6 were remodeled/replaced by the current 2-3-4-5 under Ross' direction. Likewise the revamping of 11-12 and the last four holes on the back. We have property line maps that show O'Neil, Janes and Middleton (two members) couldn't go anywhere else.

Moved my response to Tim to a new thread to keep this one on track.  In its place, here are a couple of early Glen View Club plans which I do not think have been posted yet.

Malone (New York) Golf Club from "A History of the Malone Golf Club" (1987 / 2003). This is the original 18-hole routing.

Hole Nos. 1-8, 16 and 17 on this routing are still in play on the current East Course and remain virtually untouched, sans significant tree growth and still play as the same hole numbers.

Hole No. 9 now plays as No. 18 on the current West Course; No. 11 as current No. 1; No. 12 as current No. 9 West; No. 13 is currently No. 10 West, No. 14 is now No. 17 West.

Old No. 10 is still pretty much in tact, but is only used as a practice hole. Old No. 18's green is still there and is used as a practice chipping / putting green, but the bunkers have been taken out. Old No. 15 green still exists and sits at the rear of the current golf range and is used for instructional purposes, however, I believe a fair amount of green space has been lost.

And here's Malone's original routing (nine holes) at it's original location, slightly closer to the village where Franklin Academy now stands.

Here are a few routings from J. Peter Martin's "Adirondack Golf Courses...Past and Present." A number of the courses don't have architects listed in the book, so I will be looking into that to see if I can find any more information on them

Eagles Nest Country Club and Golf Course, Blue Mountain Lake, New York; Willie Dunn (1900) - defunct

Lake Clear (New York) Inn Golf Course (1912) - defunct I'm not sure how accurate it is, but take a look at Nos. 7 and 8...that doesn't look too safe!

Tackawana Golf Course, Willsboro, New York (pre-dates 1927) - defunct

Clifton Pine Golf Course, Star Lake, New York (1918 / 1954)

Thendara (New York) Golf Course; Donald Ross (1920)

Matt,
If you don't mind can you post, or send me,  the photo of the fairway with the stonehenge-like rocks used as a hazard?
 Can't remember the page.

Thanks

Thank you Matt!  I love that photo, even though I feel sorry for the damsel getting ready to hit her shot.

A hazard that really fits on an Adirondack golf course.

Thanks to all those who continue to contribute to this thread.  Jim Kennedy, you Da Man!  My apologies for lagging so far behind, but I've now updated the index.

Here is a very nice image of Robert Bruce Harris's 1955 grassing plan for the Country Club of Florida that Lester George was kind enough to send me...

And here are a number of maps that Mark Rowlinson sent me...

Bath

West Sussex

Frilford Heath

Golf Club Biella

Chateau de la Tournette

Mark also sent me these two maps of an unidentified course which I assume is in Japan...

Can anyone help put a name to the course?
