Sven -

It is striking how many c/l or near c/l bunkers TB built later in his career. A clear shift away from Victorian cross bunkers. Very interesting.

Jim -

I am informed by my kids that the technical term for "click on it - will go big" is now "embiggen". ;)

Merry Christmas to all.

Here's a routing of Inverness in 1920 from the first issue of PGA Magazine. I know there were two prior routings of Inverness on this thread, but the image sources appear to be broken.

Matt:

Thought your post was appropriate considering the text at the top left of the routing map you posted.

Here's another Inverness routing, this one from the June 1907 edition of Golfers Magazine.

Sven,

I am curious as I thought Inverness was 9 holes until Ross came around 1919.  Nichols did the original routing, which i thought was 9 holes.  I have the centennial book, not with me.  I'm curious if the above you posted ever got built.

Nicholls did the original 9.  The course was extended to 18 holes around 1907 (April 1907 Golfers Magazine notes the work on the new 9).  Not sure by who.

Jim, Denver City Park GC is virtually unchanged from this routing. I guess not surprising given its street-locked topography but still interesting to see 100 years later.

It is interesting how often holes cross roads on these older routings.

I had thought, for example, that the holes at Merion originally designed to cross Ardmore Avenue were unusual. But it's likely no one would have thought so at the time.

No road crossings, just the railroad tracks.

One of the first golf and real estate communities in the US.
Click and it will go big:

Bendelow did River Crest in Ft Worth earlier than that.  Of interest is the fact that both places, his intent was to put the golf course in the front yard, across the street.  At some point later (and maybe earlier, depending on developer) the trend shifted to putting the golf course behind the houses.
