Thanks to Carl Johnson for passing along John Van Kleek's drawings for Old Fort Golf Club in Old Fort, NC.  Here is the preliminary plan...

...and then the final as-built plan, which I understand was implemented after some additional land was acquired...

This thread is one beautiful and potentially truly useful one into the future. It should just keep on going and going.

However, what I would really like to know is what is the EARLIEST truly PROVABLE topographical (contour lines) survey map that was used PRE-CONTRUCTION to actually design a golf course on?

Ed,
Not really a drawing, so I'll delete it if it doesn't 'fit'.

Jim Kennedy:

That interesting newspaper article and aerial photo really brings back some old memories for me. My father held the course record on that course for years (which he set in the Ormond Beach Championship) and I remember so well JDR's house (which is out of view). It was a very odd, incredibly long and low house that stretched way down the little road that ran south beside the Inland Waterway to Daytona.

Definitely odd

I found Ross' original 1925 plan for Metacomet on their website... http://www.metacometcc.org/club/scripts/library/view_document.asp?GRP=8988&NS=PG&APP=80&DN=ORIGINALDR

Hopefully they won't mind me posting the image here...

If so, I will certainly take it down and just leave the link to their website page.

There is a marvelous drawing of Royal Porthcawl hanging in their men's locker room.  Here is the full plan with some amateurish photoshopping in a futile attempt to remove the glare of bright background lights...

Here is a closer view of the top half without photoshop...

...and the bottom half...

...and, finally, Simpson's signature...

Didn't see the following posted so here are some routings from the last pages in an advertising book/pamphlet put out by the Santa Fe Railway.  The pamphlet can be found on the USGA digital library here:

Joe,

I was a bit confused with the Hoylake layout for a while; I thought the newspaper had come up with their own layout. ;) The left half portion of the page should be moved right of the right half. The back nine is closest to the Irish Sea.

The newspaper is from Syracuse.  What would they know about journalism.   ;)
