Ive heard some glowing reports about both designs in Arizona. From my experience  Wesikopf and Nicklaus both design some interesting par fives. How do the three shots holes compare at these courses. In the past Jack sometimes went overboard on green contours, while Weiskopf & Moorish favored subtle contours. So, which course do most enjoy playing and why ?

I haven't seen a single golf course in Arizona aside from through the windows of planes. But, I have heard that Desert Highlands is very good (despite some wicked green contours) and the club members often boast about their stellar putting course.

I worked on Desert Highlands construction and it had a big impact on me.  It was perhaps the first modern course that built the course "into" the gound, not just on top of it.

If memory serves my DH was at the end of the Nicklaus/Morrish period and Troon at the beginning of the Weiskopf/Morrish period.  2 good courses, see any coincidence? PS both built by Wadsworth.

You should probably throw The Boulders (south)(also Wadsworth in for the Hat-Trick
Coasting is a downhill process

Mark:

You left off the better Weiskopf course that few people discuss here or elsewhere ...

Silverleaf.

One of Tom's top notch designs in all of the Valley of the Sun area in my mind.

One other thing -- as much as people rightly talk about DH --- among the more recent designs by Jack that is well done and free of so much housing clutter is Outlaw at Desert Mountain.
