Jim Colton - What a Guy!
« on: January 18, 2010, 07:07:25 AM »
I spend most of my time with my head in the sand when it comes to what is available on the net.  I usually find these "great sites" to be great for a week, but I quickly tire of them.  Well, I just came across Jim Colton's http://www.golfblog100.com/.  Many of you probably already know about this site so what I would say to you is why didn't you publicize it?  Anyway there is a ton of great info attached to many of the courses on the list.  It blew me away thinking how much work went into this site.  Below is an example of what is available:

Jim - I just received the book - cheers.

Ciao

Sean,

A lot of GCA'ers helped with the process, either as panelists or by sending me the scorecards that you see on the site.  I simply try to put most of the information and links on a given course in one spot.  And it's fun and educational for me to dig up the information about the course and try to figure out the routing from the aerials if I haven't seen the course before.

Look for a top 100 international and u.s. public list later this year.

  Jim

Sean,

Meet Jim Colton.

The process is striking.  First you never notice the guy.  Then you are enamored with his generosity and friendliness.  Next you realize (through a golf blog, book, multiple time consuming threads) that the guy has serious love for the game and you wonder how he holds down a job.  The next step is that you somehow become friends with HIS friends, and learn that they are just as impressed with the dude as you are.  The final step is the short chuckle that you get once someone else experiences The Coltrain, as I did in reading your thread.  Rinse and repeat...

Funny thing is, I've known the guy for eight months.  I can't imagine how many times the Tang brothers have chuckled to themselves.

Thanks Sean for the heads up.

Thanks a ton Jim for the website.

Jim' site is great - one of the really cool things is the multiple reviews that are often available for the courses so you can read about them from a few different perspectives.

If you are heading out to play a top course, Jim's site really is fantastic for research.

The passion is evident and contagious - great  stuff.

Have we just coined the term Colton B-Boy??

Just kidding, Jim.  I can't say enough about your dedication to knocking things out that I sit around and think about all day.  You make it easy for the rest of us to sit back and enjoy.  Not to mention your great taste in TV Shows.

Jim is good people - no doubt about it.

As Omar would say, "Oh, Indeed."

One word of warning:

Be wary when Jim asks your advice on something (such as a pick in a golf course draft). He will ultimately shift the blame when it doesn't work in his favor and as a bonus you get called out by Doak.

Oh well, a small price to pay for friendship.

Jim is my hero. I try to repay his favors whenever I can, but it's very difficult to keep pace.

I wish him a bright future in literature along with a mercifully short future in music production.

Oh no!  I was hoping to hear his rap stylings at some point!  ;)

Well, that's certainly one way to put it.  Chuckled, perhaps.  Watch very closely what you say and do around him for fear of being made into a chapter of a book or a rap song?  Definitely.

So bad it's good!

Also wanted to throw in my 2 cents and thank Jim for what he's brought to this site...especially with hat last thread.

Very fun stuff Jim and keep it coming.  :)

Man o man, all this Colton-worshipping around here is getting out of hand, and Victor is not even a member here (a little inside joke). :)

Tim and I will have to come up with something to bring him down a peg or two... j/k

Perhaps we could talk about the MSU/Illinois game from last Saturday?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Jim is a multi-faceted guy. He's also quite the armchair architect. Definitely one of the favorites for the next contest.

I'll pile on and echo the sentiments of the Colton B-Boys.

Particularly the spirituality exuded by the man, evidenced in his recent re-counting of playing golf with his family after his dearly departed Nana's funeral.

Clearly, he has excellent taste in golf courses. Even if he did grow up in the Chicagoland market.  ;)

Kudos to Jim.  I'm amazed at everything that he's able to accomplish on this website, his blog and his writing given his commitment to his family and career.  A true golf aficionado.

And to think...all I needed to do to boost my q-rating was join the 5th best course in Colorado. :)

I'm thinking the Doak video might have had something to do with it as well  ;D
