Do you need more distance off the tee?
« on: January 16, 2010, 06:35:42 PM »
I could use 20 or 30 extra yards myself.  Consequently, this remarkable fellow depresses the hell out of me.....and inspires me concurrently!

Joel:

When you say you can use 20-30 yards more -- sure -- just about anyone would say that.

To get a better handle on things -- how far do you consistently CARRY a drive and how many TOTAL yards do you routinely hit it ?

thanks ...

Matt---My remark was just an off-handed lead-in to the incredible video footage.  But---to answer your question.  Probably 200 in the air, and an average roll-out of 10-20 yards for 210--220 normal tee shot.  If I catch it really good with a hard draw it will go 230 or even 240, but rarely longer than that.

Joel:

Be curious to know the specs on your driver -- there are ways to increase your carry total and with that your overall distance.

FYI...

I just played with Joel.  He is sandbagging a bit.

I think he hits it consistently 215 to 230 carry and right down the middle.

If he hits his draw it will roll out another 20 to 30 yards extra.

Also, his 8 iron is magic around the greens!!!   :)

Joel is a swell guy and a talented writer.  I love the Pete Dye book.  What does this have to do with Golf Course Architecture?

Now Ron Mon, why no love?

This site is full of golf architecture nuts, who by obvious association are also general golf nuts.  SO--Where's the harm in sharing a bit of inspiring video about a guy who by all reason would never even feel a need to pick up a golf club, let alone play the game with astounding proficiency, given his physical limitations.

A bit OT, I grant you, but far less so than a hundred other threads I've perused here over time.

Joel,

I knew you'd be after me!  I don't question for a moment the fellow's pertinence to our golfing world.  I was simply stating what I believe we all should state when an OT topic comes up.  It wasn't painless to do.  I didn't think anyone would take kindly to me doing so.

Is the info under the FOI Act ? ;D
