Mark - Probably not the best golf but Myrtle Beach is your best bet.  You can pay as little or as much as you want given the number of courses.  Fly Spirit Air out of LaGuardia.  Probably the cheapest flight you can find to MB from NYC area.  Find a hotel that is able to book you a round at the Dunes Club.  It's definitely worth playing.  See recent write up on the course.  Also, check out Legends (Healthland, Moorland & Parkland) for their packages.  As for the evening, plenty to do.

Jud...true.  Very true!

EDIT...for whatever reason this is bothering me.  When I go to Vegas, I like to golf, bet on some basketball games, make future book bets on sports, and eat at some nice restaurants.  I go to bed around 9 and am up at the crack of dawn.  I rarely drink, I don't stay out late...ugh!!!...I am becoming/have become a geek.  What can I say...but I like the camradrie of being on the trip, even if a lot of my group does stay up until our tee time the next morning.

Anyway, I sincerely did think this might be a good idea based on Mark's description of his group.

Chip/Mike,

That looks like a fabulous venue to centre a golf trip.  Taking over a small friendly place would be perfect.

Myrtle Beach is probably as reasonably priced as you'll find.  Pinehurst will have better golf but would be a bit pricier and weather might be iffy.  Here's what I'd do:

Day 1: Fly into MYR in the morning, play Heathland in the afternoon (staying at Legends).
Day 2: Play True Blue in the morning, Caledonia in the afternoon.
Day 3: Play either Moorland or Parkland in the morning, fly out in the afternoon.

I was going to recommend the Strantz twosome as well.

I was pricing this out just recently and with condo accommodations for a group of four it comes in well under $1000 for 2 rounds and 3 nights.

Also if you sign up to the Tobacco Road newsletter, they put out some great deals in March.  Recently I received a notice for Tobacco Road with Pinehurst No.2 and another course for a very good rate.  I had to double check about it being no.2 and sure enough it was.

World Woods is another I'd look into and I agree with that suggestion.

Sounds like fun.  Envious.

RTJ is very solid as well!!!

Weather should be good, courses should be good enough, and it should be VERY friendly on the budget!

Mike - I was describing this place to my wife tonight, and she said "that should be your next golf trip".  She may be right - again.  I am at the opposite corner of the continent but this place looks great.

I didn't tell her about the honkytonk but I am a full bore Canadian hillbilly and I could roll with that.

Thanks Mike.

I agree with Carl and others: March in NC can be a bit of a crapshoot.  I live in Winston-Salem, about 1 hour from Pinehurst, and we usually get our largest (and often only) snow of the year in late Feb./early Mar.  South Carolina is a much safer bet until early April.

Ditto.

In fact, I'd add that in Atlanta, two of the three largest snowfalls in the past 30+ years were in either the first or second week of March.

I've been coaching spring sports in NC and GA for 36 years, and I'm here to tell you that you can get REALLY crappy weather that time of year.

Also, if you're staying down at the southern end of the Grand Strand to play True Blue and Caledonia, it's worth it to play a round at the Heritage Club.  Literally, it's neighbors with Caledonia and TB.

Good call, Ron. Heritage makes for a good trio of courses. I also enjoy The Founders Club at Pawleys.

I don't think anyone has suggested the Orlando area. You can play Sugarloaf Mtn, Deltona and Victoria Hills for a decent price. Others  in very close proximity are Timacuan and Debary.  A little further away are Southern Dunes, Orange County National, El Campeon, Osprey Ridge and Harmony. For weather, price and convenience, Orlando makes a good short trip. Jet Blue from NY is very reasonable. A lot easier for a quick trip than Pinehurst, and less expensive.

In Myrtle, there is a deal for the Legends courses, including Heritage and Oyster Bay, in addition the Moorland, Heathland and Parkland. The total cost in March for five rounds, including, breakfast, lunch and two beers each day is $320 ($520 with Lodging in a condo at the Legends complex). You may have  a few morning frost delays in MB in March. High temps range from the 50's to 70's. Not Florida weather, but okay. Moorland is a fun PB Dye course. Other choices: the Dunes Club, Caledonia, True Blue, Avocet at Wildwing and Prestwick.

Orlando is a great idea, especially with the cheap flights!
