Conditioning at L.A. Courses in mid-January

I haven't spent a lot of time in California, and especially L.A., during January.  I'll be out there in 2 weeks, and am trying to decide how much of an effort I should make to play golf.  Does it get as wet at the L.A. courses [especially those closer to the ocean] as it apparently does for the Northern California courses, or is that really just a Northern California phenomenon?

It stays pretty dry, especially recently as it has been in the 70s for a couple straight weeks

When I lived in LA, I pretty much never worried or even thought about course conditioning, regardless of season, unless it had rained that day,

Avoid the week of the Northern Trust L.A. Open - it always seems to rain on that event.

Most SoCal courses have a clay soil base and do not drain well after any amount of rain.
