FINALLY... my pick! And of course just minutes before I head on home.
First, I want to explain how I am going to conduct this draft. I am aware of the rules are more open wide, but I figured I need a little more guidance.
I am only going to pick holes that I am familiar with. This means either I have played or walked the holes in person OR I have played it on varioud computer/video games OR I have seen it so many times on TV on major tournaments that I feel like I understand the strategies of the hole fairly well.
Of course this eliminates some great holes from places like Pine Valley, Merion, NGLA, etc. but I just don't fee comfortable selecting a hole that I really do not understand.
I am also going to select the holes in order. Which means my first selection will be the #1 hole on my fantasy course. I realize this may limit my selection as many of the holes I want will be gone by the time I have to select #16-#18, but I think this is more fun.
I am going to limit my par to be between 70 and 72 and will stick to the 4 par 3's and 4 par 5's if I can.
So, here I go...
With my #1 pick I will select... #10 at Chambers Bay.
I want my first hole to represent what is to come. I also want a hole that is not too difficult and very accessible, but with some strategic options. I think #10 at Chambers Bay fits the bill perfectly and very very beautifully.
