Pictures of RTJ courses...

Okay, the thread I started about Robert Trent Jones' best courses produced a wide and intersting variety of answers.  Unfortunately, I have not seen (in person or in pictures) many of the courses mentioned.  After the discussion, I would love to see pics of Crag Burn, Bellerive, Seven Oaks, Greenville CC ...and many more.  Ran's treasure trove of profiles just now has included his first RTJ course (the Dunes).  So I'll start with a pic of Mauna Kea ...my favorite RTJ course....Hit me with some good ones, don't let me down  .

Since everyone usually only sees "the signature hole," I'll post a couple of the lesser known, but still fun holes at the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course.  You'd think as many times as I've played there, I'd have better pictures though.

Didnt realize there was a profile for Dunes.  Nice!  ps, does anybody know about the extra hole they have there?  "Bye" hole I think its called, right after 13 or 14.  A par 3.











And a few of one of my absolute favorite courses, Tanglewood Park.













I remember seeing in the Tanglewood clubhouse that the bunkers seemed pretty different back in '74 when they held the PGA there.  (this is from photos...)  They definitely had white sand and seemed to be much more "scraggly" and with less tonges and definition.  Hopefully somebody can verify that.  I tend to like them better now.  Love the red dirt, love shapes!

I've never played it with a camera...I don't think it's his best, honestly, because the piece of land is flat and uninteresting.  It may have been his best effort, given the fields he had to work with.  I would put it in the company of Golden Horseshoe, Mauna Kea and others among his top ten.  I wouldn't be able to get pictures until the Spring...check here:  http://www.cragburn.com/

Kananaskis Country about an hour from Calgary, 45 mins from Banff, close to the site that hosted the winter olympics downhill events. 36 holes built by the Alberta governtment, was originally supposed to be 72 holes I believe. One of the best values for Albertans at $70/round

On a side note those pictures were taken closing weekend October 2008, it was about 2 celcius/35 farenheit.

The golf is good, but not great, both courses are fairly equal in quality, they usually sit in the top 50 in Canada for what it's worth.

Both courses are easily walkable which is a nice bonus.

Can't beat the setting and value, the cost is the same or even a little less than the average public course in Calgary.

What courses did you play while you were here?

Was on a family trip and only played 3 times...Banff, Jasper and Golden (just across in British Columbia).  Banff and Japser both make my personal top 25 and I think they are truly great;  and I liked Golden.."good but not great" as you might say.

Kananaskis was on my radar as was Silvertip?...I think it was Silvertip...?

Kananaskis and Golden would be comparable experiences in my opinion, they are in the process of adding a second 18 at Golden with Les Furber designing it. He also did Silvertip, you definitely didn't miss anything not playing it, I like to compare it to an amusement park, really over the top, cart golf at its absolute worse(there's an 8 minute cart ride between holes) and $175 greens fees to top it off, Stewart Creek across the highway is a better bet.
