I thought I would post my brother Bob's entry: Bristol Downs and Back. I helped him slightly since he wanted to incorporate Macdonald's template par threes.

He chose to route a reversible course, which as you can imagine, is quite an ambitious challenge. I think the Redan works really well where he placed it, and the Short looking at the water is correct. But my favorite part was being able to play a Biarritz from two different directions, something I never could have conceived.

Because we had a very tight site, we made an assumption that the client was a small, limited member, private club.  We wanted to build in some flexibility so the members did not have to play the same 9 holes all the time.  We figured on an open layout, mostly fairway.  Forcing a defined reverse 9 was perhaps a stretch, but with limited play we figured you would be able to come up with different 4, 5 or 6 hole loops or pick a green and play to it; (i.e. the tee by 9G to 6G; tee by 6G to 4G, etc).  A fun exercise, bash away!

I was going to post that I really enjoyed this exercise, particularly receiving direct feedback the judges (after objective reflection, they were right in all cases!), and that I couldn't wait for the next competition. Now I see Ben has posted the specs for the 18-holer so I got my wish! Even though this will be a tough month for me to find free time. I enjoyed seeing what others came up with, too. I originally thought that with such a confined plot of land we'd all end up with essentially the same routing, but everyone's creativity proved otherwise. Fun, fun stuff.

I would also happily post my submission but its a 15-page PDF (I know) so if anyone would like to see it, I posted it HERE. Give it a moment to load the full resolution and please view in full screen.

 8)  Drew,  Very impressive presentation, that's not Googel Sketchup being used is it???
