With all due respect -- I don't know if you really understand what Winged Foot / West provides architecturally given your one time play. The collective nature of the par-3 holes is very strong.
It appears to me the course you talk about is far different than the one I have played numerous times.
WF/W succeeeds inspite of the land itself - the elements of strategic calculations happen there from the time you step on the 1st tee through to the last putt dropping at the 18th. I see you listed Plainfield and NGLA ahead of it -- but frankly I think WF/W gets little love from many becasuse it is THAT demanding.
