Where are British Isles architects working?
« on: December 11, 2009, 06:34:15 AM »
The Carne thread made me wonder where architects based in the British Isles are currently working and what projects they may have on. I suppose I could check their websites but it's nicer to hear from the architects themselves.

Mark,
Ford Golf Design have just finished 1 project in Prague, Czech Republic - Prague City Golf Course. This was opened in August 2009, we started construction on another project in Warsaw, Poland in August 2009, at Sobienie Golf & Country Club. We also have another in permitting stages at the moment for the Czech Republic which we hope to start construction in April 2010.
We have decided to open an office in the Czech Republic, we can't see much work coming our way in the UK with a lot of more established Architects already clearing up the remodelling work. Also Prague is a beautiful city to be based, central to most places also noted for it cheap beer and beautiful women, not a bad situation in these difficult times.
I am not sure about the rest, but I dont think there is any work in Ireland or UK from what I have heard? ??? ??
I have heard of a few things in Scotland, but if they go ahead i am not sure.
I guess the Americans must be in a similar situation ?

Robin and Jonathan,

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. I'm glad you are finding work in the former communist bloc. There's some great golfing potential. I spent some time working in Poland in the late 1980s and most of the farming was still being done with the assistance of a horse rather than a tractor and as I passed through undulating virgin land I kept thinking that a traditional, hand-crafted golf course could be on the cards. But who would have appreciated it when they had an all-singing-and-dancing Jones supermodel just outside Moscow?
