Restoration of Pinehurst #2 New
« on: November 02, 2009, 05:24:37 PM »
There has been much speculation here regarding the report that C&C will be doing some work on #2.
There was an extensive report in the local paper (thepilot.com) yesterday providing some light on the subject.
According to Don Padgett II, who runs the place, their goal is to restore many of the Ross features that have faded or vanished altogether. Details of the interview with Don can be found at the site listed below.

I've been in Pinehurst the last few days visiting my parents for Thanksgiving and we talked about this. My dad said the club has told the members they are pretty much going with C&C. One can only hope that the club/resort lets those guys do what they do best. Hopefully widening the fairways and restoring the angles of play will be one of the primary focal points. Also, I hope they do away with the rye overseeding and let the course dry out. I wonder if the Dormie Club and the excitement of some of the photos got the club off its duff on this one because without this restoration #2 may not be the best course in Pinehurst in a few years. If they do let C&C do their thing I am super stoked because I am joining the club in the next month or two.

This keeps sounding better and better.  From the article, it seems like the motivation to do the restoration/renovation work is more from Pinehurst and not the USGA passing down some new "marching orders" for the US Open double in 2014.

Jim:

I think you are getting the Padgetts mixed up.  Don Padgett, Jr.(II) is the president of Pinehurst while Don Padgett, III is the executive director of the World Golf Championships/Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, OH.

Thanks for posting the article.  I am looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
