Prairie Club(Lehman) #8 Bunker Complex
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:39:15 PM »
I thought people who have not toured or played the Prairie Club Lehman course might enjoy a couple Grow-in pictures.
To follow is the bunker complex approximately 30-80 yards short of the green.

The right side of the complex early in the grow-in

I refer to this as the "Gap Bunker' as it opens up as the only sight line into the green complex.

The right side of the complex from a position that would allow visual access to the green.
To me this is one of the more artful bunker complexes on the Lehman course, and there are quite a few to compare it to.
I would be interested to hear how this bunker complex affects play, having not played the hole.
I trust it has changed since I was last at the site.  Sand Hills so the course and the bunkers are always in motion.

How does one go about making a bunker in sandy areas such as this one?  Just dig it in the basic shape and area you want and let it go?

It seems that paying too much attention to aesthetics could be just pissing in the wind.  Literally.

It would be great to see an aerial or diagram of the hole to see where this bunker is lies in relation to the green/hole.

Looks pretty cool - how long until it doubles in size, a couple of years?

Rob, I doubt the bunker will ever double in size, or even change in size, at least dramatically. Since many of those who constructed these bunkers have worked on other courses for other archies, I wouldn't expect much change. I will admit to also speculating on this point.

Ben, The bunkers are not just scraped out and then allowed to let the wind create them. I assume they are dug out with a machine and then finished off with handwork. When I was there recently, they were tweaking quite a few of them and building a few more. I saw them doing the handwork.

If anyone has a Facebook account, log on and check out the Prairie Club site and view the new aerial photos they have posted.
Subtly stunning.
