Who do you think craves more attention from internet strangers, you or Anthony?
What do you think Anthony will do with himself if he is ever banned from this site for his uncharacteristic brazenness?

I had certain hopes about what was being done when the site was down for so long this morning. Disappointed to see I wasn't on the money!

What's your favorite Elks course? Why?

Phil

  Q. What's your favorite Elks course? Why? A. My favorite Elks course is the Vincennes Elks GC which is located only nine miles from where I sit as I type. It is the site of my first hole in one and where my sons have played middle school golf. VEGC is a William Langford and Theodore Moreau design that compares favorably to Lawsonia at an even more affordable price. Sadly, due to current economic situations, the course is for sale and may not open next year. This would be the perfect time for GCA's economic analysts to discuss the Elks model and its future in the golf industry. Many Elks members are older and giving up the game, not eating out and sadly no longer drinking to excess, which were staples to the success of the Elks model.

Anthony-

For the past year I just thought you were a just a bored Dentist in Tennessee hanging out in your office posting the equivalent of text messages on other people's threads, making yourself "butt buddies" with a few other boring types, and taking a first row seat in many of the dumbest threads of the past year and a half on GCA. However, for the most part I thought you were harmless.

Through this thread you have lost all credibility with me. You are truly a Grade-A douche bag.

John,
I find it fascinating how when playing DR you would place a tee at your ball and putt to your partners ball location....how did this affect your approach strategy?

  Q. I find it fascinating how when playing DR you would place a tee at your ball and putt to your partners ball location....how did this affect your approach strategy? A. The game of putting to your playing partners location was conceived out of necessity because the greens had been deholed for the winter. As far as approach strategy went I was all about just hitting the green anywhere on the putting surface, it was when this failed that the fun began. Given the severity, and I'm not kidding, of Dismal's greens the best strategy when faced with an opponent on in regulation it to hit your recovery below your opponents ball so he is putting down hill and you are putting up, thus increasing the likely hood of him three putting giving you a chance to tie or win the hole. I have always enjoyed playing without pins or knowledge of a hole location, which is only good for once a winter, so the complete lack of hole added another level of interest rarely found for the avid player. note: If you think Dismal has a number of blind shots try playing for the first time without pins. Its like playing in the dark with the sun on your face. btw. That last sentence expresses best why I joined. Playing Dismal River is like playing in the dark with the sun on your face.

The responses are vintage Kavanaugh.  Nothing Dr. Gray has ever posted on this web-site suggests he is that witty.

John, tell us all about Dismal River?  What were your thoughts?

  Q. John, tell us all about Dismal River? What were your thoughts? A. I feel remiss not talking about both The Prairie Club and Wild Horse when discussing Dismal River. Both played a huge roll in my desire to participate in that golfing community. I spent so many hours touring each of 46 holes at The Prairie Club that I was not left with time to play but was solidly impressed to the point that I know it will play a role in each of my visits to Nebraska. Anyone who is a true student of architecture who must choose between TPrC or Old Mac because of time or budget constraints will hopefully choose to visit this facility to study what can and has been done on this most interesting property. I mean really, the book has already been written on the greatness of OM so lets get some fresh outlooks out there in o10. The location of Wildhorse on the interstate between Denver and North Platte is key to anyones enjoyment of the region. This coupled with Southwest Air having flexible flight schedules and not charging for baggage is what put Nebraska over the top for me as a golf destination.

Pat Craig-

I'm relatively new to the site so please forgive me for not having the benefit of history.

With that said, your characterization of Anthony as a "bored dentist hanging out with other boring types", "butt boy", "dumbest threads of the past year" and "Grade-A douche bag" strike me as especially vitriolic.  What, precisely, about Anthony's thread has elicited such a nasty response from you?

Best-

Anthony-

I'd like to ask you a question:

What have you actually contributed to this discussion board? Because so far it has only been mindless crap regurgitated from golf books you have read for the first time or pictures of you parading around a golf course.

Another question:

Do you wear brightly colored/ugly pants for the same reason you post threads like this-to gain attention for yourself?

Who would have thought these terms could be used on a thread about Jaka and not be about Jaka?

Who would have thought someone other than Barney could be accused of vitriol on a thread about Barney?

Astounding!

I played with "BANNED" people at all 3 CGA events I have attended. To my knowledge Ran was not bothered by their inclusion. They were not treated as leapers. John's responses to the questions asked have been informative. More questions for John?

While I agree that the legitimacy of this thread may be questionable and while I also agree that contacting Ran (as suggested by Bob Huntley and John Mayhugh) is probably the most prudent way of handling this thread, I have to say that I am absolutely appalled by some of the posts on this thread and how the disagreement over whether this is a legitimate thread or not could yield such disgraceful personal attacks on Anthony.  That is precisely the type of behavior that we didn't appreciate from Kavanaugh.

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Bob Huntley-

Simply put, two wrongs don't make a right.  Based on your comments and those of many others on this site, I accept on faith that Ran had ample justification for taking the action he did with Mr. Kavanaugh.  With that said, if the consensus was that Mr. Kavanaugh should be banned for his use of vitriolic language, aren't we implicitly endorsing a double standard if we don't similarly call out Mr. Craig for his use of vitriolic language towards Dr. Gray (to wit, "mindless crap", "dumbest threads of the year", "boring", "butt boy", and "Grade A douche bag".  Where I come from, those kind of words are ill-mannered and discourteous at best, and might even garner a punch in the nose at worst.

Another embarrassing thread.

That says it all to me.

I guess there are two recent (last couple of years) trends on this board in particular that I don't care for.  The first is what some other boards call "running the site"...one board in particular has this guideline: "Have balance and don't over post in one day.  High maintenance users can be asked to slow and/or not post.  Don't deluge the forums and overwhelm the threads."

It would be one thing entirely if the high-volume posts were of substance, but more often than not they aren't.  Perhaps the increase in low-quality/high-quantity posts can be attributed to posting from iPhones or Blackberrys...I'm not sure, but there is a lot more of it now.

The second trend on the board is the subject of another current thread...the childish (yes that word is appropriate...I have three boys under the age of 13 so I know of what I write) arguments that go on and on in any thread where any combination of 2-4 regular posters are involved.  For some reason, these clearly intelligent folks have no clue about how absolutely pathetic (without qualification) they appear with each and every confrontational post.  There is no winner in these internet battles...everyone, including us unfortunate readers checking a thread for the hope of an interesting post, is a loser.

There....I've posted what I've been thinking for far too long.
