A Vendor stopped in yesterday and was talking
about an upcoming trip to Cape Cod during which he would play the Kittanset Club. My
Question is, Is Fred Hood the greatest of
the "One Hit Wonders"?  If not Who is?

Th- I would check that fact. I am under the assumption that Mr. Neville was called over for his opinion but the archie was someone else. I also could be wrong, mostly because the history, as it exists in the library, is limited or more than likely a guarded secret.

Because the fact that Oakmont was lavished
over for such a long period of time I would
have to consider it a non-traditional design-
designer relationship.  Oakmont gets an

According to C&W: Neville laid out several courses, none of which were built. He assisted George C. Thomas at Bel Air and Bob Baldock at the Shore course for MPCC in 1961.  He also laid out a second nine on dunes for PGMGC in 1959.

I take note of the initial post on this thread by RDecker in which he mentions that Frederick Hood may've been one of the best of the "one hit" wonders with his Kittanset. I also take note of the date of that initial post----eg back in 2001.

I note that in the meantime we proved to the club that Frederick Hood did not design Kittanset, even if he was extremely central in a number of other ways to the club's and course's creation and development; Philadelphia's William Flynn designed Kittanset and we found all Flynn's drawings to prove it (apparently after 2001).

1.  Which architects SHOULD have been one-hit wonders?

2.  R. Decker...unacceptable.  No one appoints himself as the doler of asterisks.  Fownes counts.

3.  I think you look at Crump and you look at Fownes and you say, damn, they're both hot!!!

I think the term "One Hit Wonder" can certainly apply to architects that have done multiple courses, much like one hit wonders in music usually have several songs. 

So which architects have done multiple courses, yet only one really renowned course?

I'll start with Ellis Maples (Grandfather Mountain).
