My answer - statues of animals on the golf course.  I saw a course today in NJ that had several big metal horse statues right on the course between fairways.  Never a good sign

3. that the flower bed around the first tee is larger than the tee box

4. the sign by the first tee says, "no alcoholic beverages allowed"

5. the group you're paired with has more than 1 ball retriever between them.

6. the guy you're playing with claims to be a 21 index, pushes you into a larger nassau than you're comfortable with and is 2 under gross after 3...

I think you're in a bit of trouble when you get to the course and a sign says "Carts Mandatory." That usually leads to slow play and a goofy course. Though not 100% of the time.
