Early Report From the Kiwi Challenge
« on: November 11, 2009, 01:05:35 AM »
They are playing the event today and tomorrow in New Zealand, although it will not be televised in the USA until this weekend on NBC.

I wouldn't dream of spoiling the results and I don't even know them ... I'm only rooting for the golf course.  But I heard from the professional at Cape Kidnappers this evening that round 1 was suspended after 15 1/2 holes because of a strong southerly wind!  I guess they were not able to hit driver-nine iron on those finishing holes this year so they didn't know how to proceed!

Dude...

I can't wait to see these guys play that course.  I never been there, and therefore have never played it, but if it plays 1/2 as good as it looks it will be a total blast to play.  And seeing pros play a "different" style of course will be very interesting.  I am pumped!!

Last year it was pretty cool; I think it will be even better this year with the wind blowing.

From looking at the web-site it is all at Cape Kidnappers this year, no rounds at Kauri?

Do you have your screen grabs from Kidnappers?

I heard a good post round interview with Sean O'hair this morning on XM. He talked about how the course was playable despite the winds because there were usually places to miss. He also commented on the F&F nature of the course with a couple 400 yard downwind drives.

I still have both rounds in HD on my hard drive.  I've even stripped out the commercials on the round at CK so that it fits onto a dual-layer DVD for viewing on a computer (I sent TomD one).

Kenny,

Both rounds are at CK this year.  No play at Kauri Cliffs.

The weather was not great yesterday.  Could be better today.  An early start may help.

Can someone be so kind as to post the total yardage for CK from the tips -- I know those marks may not be the ones the exihibition is played from?

Thanks ...

Matt:

I believe the card says 7,137 yards from the tips.  I only know that because I've seen it a couple of times in press releases.

However, that does not include a new tee built last year for the fourth hole off the corner of the third green.  That tee probably adds 50 or 60 yards to the fourth and gets it up around 7,200.

There are five par-3 holes and four par fives, although the 16th is a VERY short par 5 for the big boys at only 500 yards.  But you should not complain; if you play it with "one foot off the back tee" you might fall backwards 400 feet to your death.
