Consider me a tentative "yes" for this and possibly +1.

Details to follow as we iron out our Holiday plans.

Thanks

I may make the drive up, possibly with one of my Assistants. Have to see what the Holidays brings as myself and staff are from all over the world....

Count me in as well (90%, as family will be in town).

Pete, what are the current conditions of the greens?  Also, what's the status of the the reachable par 4 on the back (17???)?  They were moving quite a bit of dirt when I was last there in late spring.

Hmm put me in as a tenative yes as well. I don't think we are flying North for Christmas until the 24th so this might work well for me, especially if JC decides to carpool up.  Wink

You should probably keep that whole aluminum thing quiet Mike, at $.80 a pound people will be taking their divots home with them.

I played Sugarloaf Mountain the other day for the first time.  The topography is surely the single-most unique feature of the golf course, because it looks and plays like it's in North Carolina rather than Central Florida.  To me, the golf course was a bit of a snoozer until the eight hole, when it picks up momentum and builds up to a very strong back nine.  I was underwhelmed by many of the green-sites, with only a handful appearing all that unusual or challenging.  The 14th hole is an incredibly well-designed golf hole, but the fairway appears to be very unhealthy.  The conditioning of the golf course overall left a bit to be desired, to be direct about the matter.

Overall, I was a little let down by the overall experience.  I'm a big fan of the two Coore/Crenshaw courses that I've played (Bandon Trails and Sand Hills), but this course just didn't rise anywhere near the level of excellence that they achieved with the other two.  It's certainly on the list of places to play in the greater Orlando area, but it didn't move my needle as much as I thought it would.

Terry, I'm very surprised to hear the greens were "underwhelming."  I recently had a chance to play Austin Golf Club and was so impressed by the way the greens defended par that I wrote a brief report on how difficult they were.  The next day I played the C&C at Barton Creek, also in Austin, and had a similar experience.

Looks like I am "IN" for this.

Hopefully Patrick Hodgdon will make the roadie up with me.

Also, I may be +1 if I can coax my brother (who lives in Lake Mary) to come over and play for the day.

But as it stands, consider me a yes.  (mainly because it's been too long since I've seen Bill Steele)

Hi Gents!

Hope all is well with everyone.  Orlando is a warm & sunny 82 degrees today...given weather conditions around the country, the GCA bylaws say we can officially discuss Florida architecture.  Wink  I've secured 4 tee times starting at 8:30 for the 23rd, at a great rate of $45 including lunch.

As for latest conditions...they are not great but very playable.  Obviously economic conditions have dictated a reduced maintenance budget which has affected the conditioning.  Also we overseeded for the first time this year, so the greens have been kept quite long to keep them healthy.  I played this Sunday and they were running pretty good in preparation for this wk's Hooters Tour event.  The sandy waste areas have become overgrown with weeds/gorse in areas, but the bunkers are in good shape.

I'd prefer to leave architecture commentary for after the retreat.  There are certainly flat greens at 1, 2, 3, 7, 11, 16, but they are also on the flat portions of the land.  There are at least 6 that are extremely interesting (6 and 15 to name just 2).  Hopefully we will get a windy day as the layout was designed around those conditions.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Should we limit questions to just those related to the Sugarloaf event?

Do you know why the decision was made to overseed? This USUALLY addds to the cost of maintenance....interested to hear your response.
