It doesn't take any more time than going outside every 10 minutes to have a cigarette.

"Tom Paul, How dare you utter the question that no one wants to hear uttered??? " Come on Kalen, don't you understand I am offering all you guys a great negotiation point with your employers? If your bosses are getting pissed at all the time you spend on GOLFCLUBATLAS.com during work hours this gives you the opportunity TO MAKE A DEAL. Just tell them you'll be more than willing to give up GOLFCLUBATLAS.com during work hours if they just agree to allot you the appropriate amount of time during the work week to play golf during work hours. "It doesn't take any more time than going outside every 10 minutes to have a cigarette." Jerry, do you realize it is not unconstitutional today to fire people for smoking cigarettes even outside?

If I didn't have GCA.com, I would just sulk all day at work, and sulking isn't very productive

No different than whiling away time with Facebook and Twitter...though the topics here can be more interesting....and some of the spats you alley cats get entangled in are not unlike rubber-necking a car crash!

Tom, I'm sure I would then be given all the time I want to play golf, or surf the web, or watch TV.....and oh yes lots of time to be searching thru the want ads, and time to spend in the unemployment line!!

Kalen:
Really? OK, here's what I want you to do. Go into your boss's office and tell him that there are about 1374 people all over the world on a prominent golf architectural website who think he is a real asshole if he agrees with the statement of yours above. Of course, you should also tell him, at this point, you do not necessarily agree with those 1374 people all over the world on that golf architecture website who think he's a real asshole and one without a modicum of humor to boot, or to pitch or chip or putt or whatever verb you choose to use.

For the first time since the forum opened, this year it has taken virtually no productive time away from any golf course architects, because most don't have anything better to do than discuss what we WOULD build if there were any new projects underway.

TomD: Is it really THAT bad out there right now? You know what Thomas, maybe this is the time and message to get back to passion and purity in golf and architecture! Have you ever read that remarkable April 1, 1913 Pine Valley membership solicitation letter from Howard Perrin? It said if you love golf and don't care about not getting a return on your investment (membership initiation) this is your place; if not, it isn't. Do you think those guys ever thought about borrowing money or leveraging anything?? OF COURE NOT!

This place allows me to realize I'm not as insane as everyone says I am. . . . . Then again, if it wasn't for golf and GCA, I'd have been institutionalized years ago.

Judging by some of the courses some of you on a regular basis, I have to assume that you aren't worried about getting caught by the boss since most of the time you ARE the boss.
Also, in my case, it helps that my boss does not understand how to look into web history.

The commercial construction business is in the same boat. GCA.com is more interesting than thumb twiddling. There was an article in yesterday's WSJ about the vast amounts of cash corporations are hoarding today. Hopefully they will begin to unleash it in time to get us all off GCA.com and back to work!
