Semi - OT: Lodging near Dornoch
« on: October 25, 2009, 10:11:45 PM »
Okay gang...you all helped me greatly with the N. Berwick portion of my family trip for next July...staying at the Macdonald Marine Hotel...

SO, where should we stay for our round at Dornoch??

I have a wife and 2 kids travelling with me and we will only have 1 night stay...the kids will be 12 and 15 ...too big to share a bed, so I need a room with 3 beds or connecting rooms.

Thanks for any advice!!

Thanks Joe, but David says that he has a 3 night minimum and we will be staying only 1 night.  Any other suggestions?

Bart,

I'd suggest the Bank House.  It's a B&B on the main street.  They have multiple rooms that may be able to accommodate your family.  Nice house, nice people, and good breakfast.

My first recommendation is to stay 3 nights.  One night in Dornoch is like having a quickie with Catherine Deneuve.  Three nights is more like starting an affair with a young Catherine Denueve.  However, if you must......

.....try the Dornoch Hotel.  It was once a railroad hotel equal to Gleneagles and Turnberry, and the class still shows through in the grand staircase and the wood panelled bar.  They have family rooms, which are unlikely to be taken as the bulk of the current clientele is pensioners.  The first tee of the golf course is only a John Daley drive away, and along that path you'll pass a scruffy pitch and putt that can entertain you and the family in the gloaming.

Bart,

Try the Eagle Hotel.  We (seven of us ugly 'Mericans) took a trip there back in May and they couldn't have been nicer.  The food was great and it's not a long walk to the course.   I can't recommend it highly enough.

From one Catherine Deneuve fan (old or young)  to another, you have excellent taste in women.

I agree with the Eagle Hotel.  I was there in July and it was great!  Central location, friendly staff and great food.  It certainly worked for my group.

Rich et al:

I really appreciate the help and believe me, if I could stay in Dornoch for a week and golf, I would...this is a family trip and golf is just a piece of the pie...I am not complaining....A chance with this Catherine DeNeuve will just whet my appetite for a return trip....

I'll check out the suggestions.  Thank you all!
