I was out there yesterday and will have a column for next week in the SouthtownStar's sports section. It's very impressive, both from the standpoint of the students doing virtually all the work, including clearing the land, to designing the holes after architect Greg Martin - the Rich Harvest connection - giving them the basics on how to do it. He visited the site at least a half-dozen times, and the super from nearby Stony Creek, a muni in Oak Lawn, a couple of towns over, was also a big help.
The layout is triangular, so you can play clockwise, as designed, or counter-clockwise. There are also tees for disabled to play to an adjacent green.
The course is ready to go with one exception. The school doesn't yet have a greens mower. The Chicago Park District is scheduled to give them one next spring, so the course won't open until then. So now, the bentgrass on the greens and tees is about an inch long. Must be what golf looked like over 100 years ago. Maybe they can use the sheep on the premises in the meantime ...
Since the public will be able to play it, I'll list it in the SouthtownStar's golf guide in the spring.
