Yes.. Well... looking at it glass half full rather than half empty... at least it's a better option than some of those it was up against to secure the tournament... Not a links course in sight I believe, even after the thrilling finish at Baltray last year...

i don't think its a bad thing and the new date certainly helps. the killeen course was a great site in the past to hold the open so there's no reason why it wouldn't be again.
Golf construction & maintenance are like creating a masterpiece; Da Vinci didn't paint the Mona Lisa's eyes first..... You start with the backdrop, layer on the detail and fine tune the finished product into a masterpiece

The new date certainly helps... Just a pity it won't be at the seaside... But at least they've picked a more traditional inland venue which shows off some natural beauty...

Its like the Scottish Open as well - Loch Lomond.

Oh it makes me wonder why do they have a section of the season dedicated to links courses outside the Open rota like the grass courts season in tennis which then climaxes with the Open at the end this would enable the better players to get used to links turf and conditions etc

For example (the courses can vary but these ones are near the main cities)

Dutch Open - Kennemer

English Open - Royal CP

Irish Open - Portmarnock

Scottish Open -  Western Gailes

The Open

We all wish for that Ben... There must be obvious logistical problems but you would hope that the European Tour might one day at least attempt to initiate a mini-links calendar...
