What do you think of this course - http://www.concrawood.ie/Hole-By-Hole-Tour

I know people who have played it, and they love the place, although they would not have a leaning toward the gca end of things.

Hey Jack,

Haven't been up there myself but I believe it is built on a Drumlin Field... I'd be interested to know if that had any impact on the construction...

From the course tour it does look very "pretty" - the cart paths don't look very good, seems like there are a ton of them all over the place - Is the presence of cart paths the "norm" now in Ireland?

13 and 15 are way too similar - and 16 is another similar drive over the water.

Looks like Cupp did some of the mounding along the fairways - not my favorite.

I do like the aesthetic of the fescue and trees.

Internal water hazards on a course like this seem like too much IMO. There is enough trouble out there for a bogey golfer - they don't need to make it even more penal.

A photo tour would be great at some point. Thanks for sharing the link.

Ally

I haven't been there myself yet, but hope to get up there soon. Everyone who has played seems very excited about the place. I know nothing about the construction either, other than that it was some sort of collaboration between Christy Snr and Jnr.

Rob

I thought the cart paths stood out alright. I'd say most golf courses don't have them, but there wouldn't be much objection to them if they had over here.

I thought the holes looked nice in general, but like you thought maybe a few holes looked similar.

I'm not as clued in to the architectural merits of courses as most here, but thought this looked a bit different at least.

My brother was heavily involved in getting this course built. If I recall correctly, they had meetings with Peter McEvoy and one or two other architects. I not 100% sure, but I think they considered getting Pat Ruddy, but he may have too busy with other projects. My brother thinks the course is fantastic and highlights the greens (which they cut with single hand pushed Ransomes mowers, as the club wants to be noted for the quality of the greens) as the best he's ever putted on. Some of them are over 50 yds in depth.

Dónal.
