Pat,

Dinner was excellent at Metropolis.  :)

I've always liked the lox and onion omelette at Philmont.  :)

I've had the good fortune to have enjoyed many of the great meals in golf both foreign and domestic, but the best lunch in golf is at Golf de Joyenval in France.  It's not even CLOSE.  The veal piccata I had totally melted in my mouth.  I owe my host there one and hopefully I will be able to reciprocate some day.

Runners up....probably NGLA and Morfontaine.

Honourable Mention.....Seminole, HCEG, and Swinley Forest.

Are you talking about food ?  Or snacks ?  Because most of the answers are about snacks.

No one's come close to naming the clubs that have really, really, really good food.

In fact, none of the answers are in the same solar system. ;D   ;D    ;D

Pat, have you had the lobster sandwich at Maidstone?

Good call by Tufts on Stone Eagle.

I'm sorrry but the only thing about Bandon that I thought fell a bit short was the food.  Good but not great across the board...

For me it's a tie...

BEST MEALS EATEN AT A GOLF COURSE

T1) She-crab soup, Ocean Course at Kiawah. I played the day after Christmas in steady rain and upper-30's temps. Took about an hour to play the front nine, then a bowl of hot soup in the clubhouse then back out on the course to finish the round. Good soup.

T2) The buffet at Walton Heath at the "turn" between our morning round on the Old and afternoon on the New. Delicious food, plus it was my first-ever taste of locally-brewed English beer.

HONORABLE MENTION

In the junk-food category it would have to be the bacon sandwich, with a cup of hot tea no less, at the halfway house (actually it's after the 10th hole), Walmer & Kingsdown. Slamming down a hotdog at the turn back home is like a eating tofu and bean sprouts by comparison.

BEST FOOD EATEN WHILST PLAYING

Gorganzola, rocket and cranberry on fresh-baked rustic brown bread. Purchased at the Black Douglas Coffee House, Deal and eaten during a round at Royal Cinque Ports. A couple hours of being toted in my golf bag on a warm, sunny day helped it achieve the ideal taste and consistency. Man, I wish I had one right now. Plus some of that Solly's Farms ice cream afterward.

The hard boiled eggs at the snack shop at Rancho Park are excellent. Hard but not too hard.  Boiled but not too boiled.

Steak in the bar at the Links at Spanish Bay.  Excellent food and a very cool setting in a sunken bar overlooking the ocean with the fireplace going has got to be one of the coolest places to enjoy a meal after a round.

So bad it's good!

Mike Sweeney, Pat Mucci, Mike Whitaker, Tiger Bernhardt, maybe others, will remember a really good steak and lobster dinner at the Creek Club's beach club after an event there a few years ago.  Great time and good food and wine.

Breakfast Burritos at James Connally AFB Golf Course in Waco, TX.  It was 30 years ago and my mouth still waters at the thought.

At Whistling Straights they brought us a cheeses sampler tray. The hostess said "this has been aged for three years,(pointing to a different cheese) this has been aged for five years and this has been aged for seven years". After she left my 12 year old stepdaughter said with a sour face,"They want us to eat seven year old cheese?"

Not to mention the bowl of bananas by the 6th tee.  The caddies told us to throw the peels into the lake, the fish eat them!

Brunch at Mid Pines.
The fried chicken at Pine Needles.
The Bloody Marys at the 91st hole in Pinehurst are the best I've ever had.  A dash of olive juice is one of the secret ingredients.

David,

I've had the Lobster (roll) sandwich at Maidstone, the tacos at Stone Eagle, the burger dog at Olympic, the cheesesteaks at Merion, Lobster & Mac n'Cheess at NGLA, Seafood grill at The Creek, Milkshakes at Castle Pines etc.....

NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING COMES CLOSE to the Sunday dinner at Glen Oaks or Old Westbury!!! They are the gastronomic Pine Valleys and Cypress Points of golf. They serve a very wide array of food, from the same grilled chops available at Peter Lugar's to the same grade of sushi from Nobu or Blue Ribbon, and near everything in-between!!! Their chefs come from the best of the NYC restaurant scene and the places literally attract crowds in the multi-hundreds every Sunday.

The architecture may not be top on any rating lists, but the food is undeniably the very best in the game.

I am suprised no one has mentioned the pimento cheese sandwiches at Augusta National!!!

That, technically, is enjoying food on a golf course. The fact that I was observing rather than playing is another thing altogether.  :)

P.S. While I'm at it the egg salad is pretty damn as well, and there is a Hooters down the street.

Nick, I also think the Valhalla burger (with bacon, cheese, & bbq sauce) is outstanding.
