More Ballyneal Fun -- Before and After Pics
« on: September 29, 2009, 01:22:16 PM »
Dick Daley was kind enough to send me some pics of Ballyneal when it was early in the construction process.  It was fun trying to figure out which hole was being shown (some are easier than others), and finding the matching 'after' picture to go with it.  I have answers for nearly all of the pics and good matching shots for some of them, but I'll post those later.  Enjoy.

While it's obvious terrain like the Chop Hills offers great potential for a fantastic golf course, I have no idea how the pros find the best holes and tie it all together.  For a dullard like me, it just looks like a bunch of dunes.  This just in...these guys are good!

Jim,

A fun exercise....after only getting one right, maybe I can do better here.

#7 - 10 Tee
#8 - 16 Tee
#9 - 8 Greensite ??
#10 - 14 Fairway from right of tee

Jim:

Thanks for this exercise! A couple things....

- On #3, think it's got to be #10 from up near the tee. To the left, you can see how the land becomes smoother, which I think is over on the other side of 18 and near the range. Plus, there are some irregularities on the horizon to the left that I've matched up with a picture that I have.
- On #4, I now think that it's up near the green on #10/#11 tee. Could it be? Again, to the left of the picture, it looks like the land is getting smoother. I'm pretty confident it's not #8, because the dune behind 8 green is more readily identifiable. Plus, the land in the left of the photo doesn't appear to be the ridge where 1 green sits.

Now, my new guesses....

7- #10
8- #12
9- #16????
10- Almost 100% sure it's 14

Doug,

I think you are 4 for 4 on Part 2 (I think #9 is the 16th as well).  Nice job.

I have a few before and after pics posted w/ mouseover on my blog, which I think is the easiest way to flip from one to the other.  I'm going through my pics to find other matches.
