Bob & I had a tough time deciding where in the London area to play for our final round - just too many choices. We eventually decided on Walton Heath Old, and I think we made a good decision.
Walton Heath has a great heritage. Five time Open champion James Braid was their professional when the club opened and he remained there for 46 years! There is a nice little display set up in his original workshop.
During his time at Walton Heath, Braid managed a two at some point on every hole of both the old & new.
They do offer the option for some good ole 'merican style golf.
Just so there are no misunderstandings.
After the first hole on the Old, we had to cross a rather busy Dorking Road. There was a foursome of older ladies that invited us to start in front of them. I'm not sure how they managed to get across.
There was an interesting practice area set up beside the second hole. This photo was taking from the tee looking to the right.
The guy practicing was hitting back across the second tee & fairway to the practice greens. Fortunately he waited for us to hit.
We mixed up tees a little bit, but played quite a few of the holes from the tees used during the 1981 Ryder Cup. Mark Chaplin suggested I look for these markers and I'm glad he did. Hard to believe how short the course they used was back then.
Not sure what sort of marker this is, but I liked the looks of it.
There is an interesting point in the routing where the 14th tees of both the Old & New are pretty much side by side just going in opposite directions.
I liked these tee "boxes."
Fortunately, no need to use this!
