Are there Top 100 courses that are cart only?
« on: September 25, 2009, 03:49:15 AM »

Walkability seems to be a big issue on this site. Garland made a comment on a current thread about this topic and great courses. What are some of the best courses that require a cart?

I seem to recall that Princeville (Prince) is.

A friend of mine recently played at Harbor Town and was offered his choice of walking caddies or carts plus forecaddies.

Good to hear that! I do know that carts are not allowed off the path year round, though....

Off the top of my head, and checking a little on twg.com, Princeville you cannot walk, and Shadow Creek, Sanctuary, Paa-Ko Ridge, are all essentially unwalkable.

A lot of the top carribean courses you aren't allowed to walk, either, but I don't know which are considered "top 100" or not.

A lot of resort courses, the price includes cart, and I'm not sure what they'd say if you stated that you'd rather walk.

I walked at Shadow Creek, my caddie however did not.

I walked Shadow Creek as well. It wasn't that hard.

Sanctuary is cart only although I have heard of people walking it. Better them than me.

Jim and Mark,

Should Shadow Creek be "Orange - Tough Walk" instead of "Red - Essentially Unwalkable" - Thanks!

I have not played the Plantation Course in Maui but hear it is a very tough walk due to elevation change - I assume only the pros walk there during the Mercedes while everyone else takes a cart. I am hoping to walk the course in March if they let me.

I've never been under the impression that Shadow Creek was a difficult walk (haven't been there).

Rob,

Kapalua (Plantation) allows walking w/a caddie.  If you're there w/your wife, have her drive the cart w/your bag while you walk, which is what I did my one time there.  I only rode the same 3 stretches that the Tour Pros get shuttled....5 to 6, 8 tee to 8 green (totally unnecessary, IMO), and 9 green to 10 tee.

Are there some really good apples that are oranges?

Cheers,

Should Golf Digest create a new "Best Cartball Courses" so Gladys and Louie can tootle around with their labradoodle and see the finest cartball in the country?

I can see future ads now . . .   "Cartball as it was meant to be."

Kapalua Plantation is impossible to walk due to the distance between the 5th and 6th hole.
