Top 10 holes on tour according to The Golf Channel...
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:59:48 PM »
...that bastion of architectural knowledge.

#10 Riviera
#18 Bay Hill
#16 TPC Scottsdale
#18 at Doral
#18 TPC Sawgrass
#7 Pebble Beach
#18 Pebble Beach
#13 Augusta National
#12 Augusta National
#17 TPC Sawgrass

I suppose one could quibble with the list but it's interesting that 6 of the 10 come from 3 of the best holes the PGA Tour visits annually.

How do they define 'best'?  If I'm in the business of showing golf on television, ain't no way #17 at TPC isn't on the list.

Did Liberty National count as just one gigantic hole?   :-X

10 Best? Or 10 Most Photogenic?

Most memorable / most popular.

Clearly that is the only way Scottsdale made the list.

Water seems to be the dominant feature with that group of holes

Another dominant feature of this list is that the majority of the holes are late in the round ... where there's more likely to be more drama.

I think that Mr. Mucci hit the nail on the head. #10 at Riviera is the only hole that does not feature a red stake. And it came in at #10. A shame that the GC is perpetuating these holes as good design. Dramatic holes, yes. Great holes....?

I agree with Dan and note that only Pebble #7 is on the front nine. It is a list of photogenic courses most people are familiar from TV as they show up late in the round. That is about it.

Besides Jordan Wall says Riviera blows Pebble Beach away.

Need to revise your count.

16th @ Scottsdale?

Remember this site is the minority opinion. TPC 17... might get the worldwide #1 on a mass vote, 12/13 ANGC might be close too.

I bet if you asked the players on tour to vote on their favorites, I could see how this could be it. Holes like 18 at Arnies place, the par-3 in Scottsdale, the island green and the drivable? hole at Riviera, ALL would be such an incredible feeling to play in competition.

... Just an observation.... No "player architects" made the list... maybe Palmer? I guess, but no Jack

You know, whenever I watch TGC's Top 10 program, all I see is this...

What was the question again?

TGC has upgraded the talent tremendously.

Aren't Doral #18, TPC Sawgrass #18 and Bay Hill #18 essentially the same hole?
