I don't know if the actual bet was tongue in cheek, but my acceptance [and really everything I've written in this thread, except the part about not wanting to lose $1K plus on the golf course] certainly was intended to be.  As for the prep, none is necessary -- Patrick's challenge was premised on a normal, everyday setup.

The pictures on the link make the greens look about the size of a Volkswagen Beetle with the bunkers playing the role of wheel wells...are they set up to accept shots from one side of the fairway better than the other?

I'll bet anyone anywhere that they can't do that.  The odds are 3-1 in my favor.  You should only shoot net even par about 25% of the time.

If you do it more than 50% of the time, you are a sandbagger.

They are, although one's ball flight is a material factor.

Interestingly, some of the prefered angles aren't from the interior of doglegs.
While drives in the DZ on the interior are usually closer to the hole, I'm not so sure that they're incrementally rewarded on the angle of approach.

The other factor is the slope of the fairway.
Here again, the golfer's normal ball flight, combined with the slope of the fairway, angle and presentation of the green all combine in the decision making process.

I think that we'd have a great time engaging in a match play competition, under almost any circumstances on this golf course.
I"m not so sure that we'd have a good time engaging in a medal play competition.
I think the pressure is relentless at Medal play.

I'm not familiar with your game, but, I think you'd find the course to your liking.

At about 6,700 it's not overbearing, even though it's a par 70.

Still, it has some bite to it with 200 yard sharply uphill and 240-250 yard uphill par 3's  and a good number of 450 to 480 par 4's.

It also has a bunch of neat risk/reward par 4's with drives that have to contend with unique features

# 1 and # 14 are drivable, although you have to walk single file on # 14.
It's narrower than # 8 at PV.

The course has but two par 5's, a great one at that, # 3 and a unique finisher # 18.

Wind can be a huge factor in the play of the course, as the wind can dictate driving strategy on holes like # 9 and # 18 where a creek traverses the fairway near the DZ.

Get invited to the Mittlemark and give it a try.

I think you'll like it, although, as I stated, with firm and fast greens, the pressure at medal play is constant, if not overwhelming.
