Of the foirteen Majors won by Tiger, how many of the second place finishers vanished from view?

For someone who grew up wanting to imitate and surpass everything that Jack Nicklaus ever did, the example of graciousness when finishing second in a major seems to have been missed...

I assume it's tradition for the runner up to appear at the presentation ceremonies in the PGA. Really bad form for Tiger to blow the trophy ceremony.  Shows he thinks he's bigger than the game.

Maybe Tiger is being pulled/dragged to the huge swarm of reporters wanting to know what happened?

I will disagree on this...

Tiger congratulated Yang on the 18th green.  I haven't seen the results of the press conference but I heard he was pretty classy.

With a champion who speaks little English and Tiger blowing his first 54-hold major lead, Tiger would have just been a distraction at the presentation.  Today is Yang's day, credit should go to him instead of worry about Tiger.

Painfully Tom Watson stood and watched Cink kiss the jug......and then later faced the press with grace.......CLASS.

Does the PGA expect him to be there? The runner up does show up at the Open to get the silver medal. If he wasn't expected it is unfair to blame him.If he was,I agree.

I just find it odd how gracious he is with the TV media (Feherty, etc) after he wins, but is nowhere to be found for a soundbite when he doesn't.  He did the same BS at the British Open too.  Not that the media isn't used to it by now (in fact, it's expected...'Tiger Rules'), but it's still ridiculous.  Sure, sure, he does the press conference (required), but literally nothing else.

I agree.  he did smile and shake y.e's hand.  he also came into the media center.  normally when he loses, he just goes to the flash area. but today he came in and talked to all of us for a long time.  He didn't dodge any questions.  He was a much better sport than in losses past.

Jay, he still blew off CBS, which is to say, millions of viewers (as opposed to the thousands of diehards watching the news conference on Golf Channel and ESPNews). Was Kostis, his old critic whom he wouldn't talk to for the longest time, lined up to interview him? Or was it Feherty?

Tiger did what he had to do...he shook hands with Yang and congratulated him on 18...he is under NO obligation to stand next to Yang during the trophy presentation, and he is under no obligation to give you, me, or any of the millions viewing the tournament, a 10 second sound bite with CBS...

He fought a tough battle and lost...he was gracious on the 18th green.....leave him alone...and live with it.
LOCK HIM UP!!!

What could Tiger say in a 10 second CBS sound bite. "I hate losing"..."congrats to Yang"..."2nd sucks"..haven't we heard it all before?
This was Yang's moment and maybe, just maybe Tiger knew the best thing he could do was let him have it?

If Tiger is there, the focus, and cameras are on Tiger...and he knows that better than anyone.

Of Tiger's 14 majors, I'm wondering for how many of the others everybody was so concerned about getting a microphone stuck into the loser's face within 60 seconds of holing out?

Somehow that fact that he got out of Yang's way is interpreted as Tiger being bigger than the game.  Had Tiger wound up on CBS giving a few sound bites, I can only imagine how many people would been howling that we're not seeing Yang, and that the classy thing to have done would have been decline the interview.

Besides, no reason to contribute to the telecast going long for a second consecutive week.

I think this is being a little hypersensitive about El Tigre (and I'm one who finds his tantrums and language on the course to be in extremely poor form).

Anyone know the official rules on the awards ceremony?  I know that the British always has the runner up, but the other majors. I don't recall Bob May or Sergio standing alongside the winners in each year of their runner-up finishes.

I, too, would like to know the answer to this. I believe each tournament is different. In both Opens, I think the second place finisher receives some sort of trophy; I don't believe that is the case with the PGA, or the Masters, among many other events.

As for the TV interview, is there anything as worthless as the quick interview as ANY player is walking off the green?

Gents:

This is a classic example of "gotcha."

If Tiger shows up for the CBS interview -- some people bitch and moan he is stealing the limelight from Yang.

If he doesn't show up -- then the exact opposite is said.

Tiiger did congratulate the winner at the 18th green -- and he did, as Jay mentioned, provide the media with a full outline on what transpired that day. The CBS interviews in the past have been a waste of time -- you get Tiger for no more than 10-15 seconds and there is time for only one question -- if one can call it that.

Look, some people have a massive hard-on against Tiger no matter what he does. I am not here to excuse the club throwing or the foul language at times but he clearly did not bolt and leave Hazeltine seconds after the final putt dropped and head back to Florida on his private jet high above the award presentation.

I missed it on this one. Tiger showed class when with the media. He was humble, respectful, and dignified in defeat. I was wrong on my earlier posts.

For some people, Tiger can't do anything wrong.  For others, he can't do anything right.

There are some, but not many, who don't fit either list.
