I am headed to the Walker Cup next month, and looking for a decent public course to play on the Sunday.  Any suggestions/advice would be helpful.  We are looking to play in the Philly or South Jersey areas.

You'll hear many, many answers to your question.

For public access, you can't beat Glen Mills.  It really is fantastic.

Of course, I love the old course at Philadelphia Cricket if you have an in.

Do you know how to use the search function?

Frank, what I think the above post means is that you might find some useful info in these threads:

If it's the case that you've taken a break from GCA, as an fyi, the search function is much improved these days.

There are a lot of great upscale courses that way.  But if you just want to golf a good, basic course, I cannot recommend more heartily Freeway Golf Club ijn Sicklerville, N.J., just a few miles from the bridges to Philadelphia.  It is usually in good shape, wide open, one of those courses where you can just have fun.   Some of the most linksy holes you will ever see without intentionally trying to look linksy!   I think the slope is like 115 or so.  I used to have family that way, played it every chance I got.

Another little known course in Mt. Laurel is Ramblewood.  Played it many times, a great layout.

Have a great trip!

The closest course to Merion that has not been mentioned and that I like is Paxon Hollow in Broomall.

Basic golf courses, yes.  Good or great golf courses, no way.  Freeway is notable, however, for being one of 6 (according to a quick google) African-American owned courses in the country.

I am familiar with the search function, yes.  But I haven't been on GCA in quite some time, and figured a quick post would be helpful.  So far I like the suggestions, so thanks to those who have replied.

My in-laws are playing with us, and I think they would prefer the bells and whistles of an upscale daily-fee more so than a pure golf experience.

Inniscrone is a really good course and a bargain.

After Saturday at CB Mac/Wilson/Flynn Merion  ;), I would make the 75+ minute drive to William Flynn/Tom Doak Atlantic City CC. History, clubhouse is like a museum, views along the bay, fun course for the in-laws. Everybody is happy with this one.
