The Middletown Ct. Economic Development Committee again took no action on my golf course proposal, in part because of the failure of the United States Postal Service!

Middletown Economic Development Commission approved the plan last night with a 4-1 vote. Up next is the Middletown Common Council - its version of a city council - for approval to give me control of the land.

Here's today's article from the local paper concerning the project. Make sure to read the comments at the bottom. The same people complain and criticize every new project in the city.

Anthony, congrats - the public approval process should be great info for your next book.  Here's a working title - "Why development costs so  much".   Lucky for you, you are not having to pay the carrying costs for the land and taxes on it during this process.  Having 'been there, done that' with respect to developing and running a 9-holer on leased land (your agreement sounds pretty much like ours), I hope you realise how much you're bitting off. :o  It's going to be a great experience - one very few ever get - so take it all in and enjoy the ride (and don't let the bastards get you down).

Thanks for your words of encouragement. It's been quite a ride already and there's a long road to go.

Here is the local coverage of the Economic Development Committee meeting. Make sure to read all the comments in the Middletown Press story. The opposition to the project are now resorting to outright lies.

Anthony,
After reading some of the comments I think you might find these plans useful:

The buildings are part of River View Hospital for troubled youth and teens. Vecchitto's Italian Ice is four minutes away and downtown Middletown -- four and a half minutes away -- has turned into a restaurant mecca -- italian, sushi, Thai, Jamaican, steak, upscale Chinese, American Bistro, Mexican, Vietnamese.

Anthony

Anthony-Looks like a great site. Downtown Middletown has really transformed over the last 10 years. A Five Star day in my book is golf at Lyman(original 18), dinner at Cantina on Court Street and an ice at Vecchitto`s. Certainly I would be willing to substitute the golf at your course once completed. Good luck with the process.

Tim:

I like the culinary end of your day much better, not a fan of the RTJ/Rulewich 18. There are so many good places to eat in Middletown now that it's mind-boggling when you remember what downtown looked like 15 years ago.

I hope that soon your ideal day will include 18 at my golf course.

I'll be appearing on WESU 88.1 today at 1 p.m. Eastern, talking about the golf course. You can also stream it. http://wesufm.org/

I'm scheduled to go before the Middletown city council Monday evening.

Anthony-When i go by the Red Dog Saloon on route 66 it looks like a Hell`s Angel`s clubhouse. Anybody ever make it out of this place alive?

No as bad as it looks. You can't wear colors inside. The Connecticut chapter of the Hell's Angels is, in fact, in Middletown. A couple of them hang out at Hair of the Dog on Main Street.

Another step was taken last night, many more to go.

"After a lengthy debate which included testimony from Middletown residents opposed to the lease created by Middletown's Planning and Development Department with golf course developer Tony Pioppi, the Middletown Common Council voted to give Mayor Sebastian Giuliano the authority to sign the agreement.  The resolution passed with a vote of 9-3."

Conservation Commission member Katchen Coley told councilmen, “We feel very strongly that this is not an appropriate use of the land.”
Maybe you can bribe her.  ;)
