The best nine hole golf courses
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:31:37 AM »
Must have been done before but couldn't find it...

The Durness thread prompted this one...

I'll start off with two more:

Royal Worlington & Newmarket (England)
Cruit Island (Ireland)

Ally:

This is one of the better ones in Wisconsin that I've found:

Anyone here play Old Tom's Bridge of Allan near Stirling? I've also heard good things about Cupar, said to be the oldest intact 9-holer in Scotland.

Does anyone have more info on the Dunes Club or pictures, discussion, etc?

I did a search and didn't come up with much

Harrison Hills was the best in Indiana until Tim Liddy added the additional nine holes.  Not sure what it would be now, perhaps Culver.

The Dunes Club might be in order for a tree trim sometime in the near future, but I throughly enjoyed my experience there.

I've played Bridge of Allan.  It's possibly the least tampered with of Old Tom's courses.  Very hilly, it has some excellent views and is defintely worth playing for the history, but not for any particularly interesting architecture, other than the compact routing.  As for Cupar I know a number of members, none of whom has said anything particularly good about the place, but they could be wrong.
